Symptoms
Ten months prior to diagnosis I knew I was sick. Blood levels, TSH and Free T4's were always within normal range. Doctor ruled out Thyroid issues. I had extreme and sudden nausea, heart palpitations, tachycardia (racing heart),GERD (acid reflux), fatigue, vision disturbances, difficulty controlling my body temperature and sudden uncontrollable weight gain. I palpated a lump on the right side center of my neck and insisted on a Sonogram followed by a fine needle aspiration for biopsy. Positive for Papillary Thyroid cancer in September 2009. Cancer was very small and only stage 1 when removed. Still had recurrence to the lymph nodes twice as a result of a B-RAF mutation gene detected after my first metastasis. Only symptom of metastasis was exhaustion. Passed it off as being "Thyroid-less,"0 -

I'm already hypothyroid, and all that was checked recently. Everything was normal; which, I know means nothing. My only symptom is a sore throat that won't get better.0 -

Have you thoroughly checked your neck for lumps and/or has your doctor? Mine felt like a small pea and my doctor passed it off for ten months not mentioning it to me. Are you taking medication for your hypothyroidism yet?
A sore throat can be an indication of many things. The first thing I would request is a "Mono-spot" blood test to rule out Mononucleosis. This is assuming they have already done a Strep test and physically looked down your throat. Seasonal allergies with post nasal drip can irritate your throat also causing extended periods of discomfort. This typically presents worse in the morning and better in the evening.0 -

I went to ENT today and he said I have tonsillitis. He felt of my thyroid and said no lumps.
I was born with thyroid deficiency so I've taken everything available for 38 years. When I started Armor was all available. I then took synthroid and now I'm on Levozyl.0 -

For me, my first and only symptom was a lump in my neck, right side about the same level as my larynx, so the lump doesn't have to be in or near your thyroid. In fact, a pre-thyroidectomy sonogram didn't reveal any lumps in my thyroid because they were too small for a sonogram to see.
If you're very concerned, you could go to a head and neck specialist and have them do an endocsopy for a better look. It's outpatient with nothing more than a topical numbing agent, they spray foul tasting stuff into your nose and mouth {make sure they wait until the stuff gets you numb before they start.} Apparently cancer cells in your throat have a particular look to them so a visual inspection is all they need most times.
