1st surgery coming up June 18th

I am having a partial nephrectomy on my right kidney June 18th and was wondering if anyone else has had one and what can I expect

The reason I wanted to respond is that I saw that no one had responded to your post. I submitted a post a few days ago and no one has replied. Kind of made me feel a little down and disappointed in our community.

Thanks that was kind of you, but I didn't take it personally there doesn't seem to be much going on here. I am doing fine, I was out of work for about 7 weeks and my energy levels are not back to normal and of course the emotional roller coaster is still running full speed, again thanks for asking

Hi

I was diagnosed in August with RCC. I had surgery in November (Partial NephrectomyLaparoscopic). I was 5 and a half hours in the OR and 4 days in the hospital. I have had surgeries before, but nothing near this major. The pain in the flank was unreal. I was on oxygen, morphine, Dilaudid, and oxycodone. They tapered these off day by day. When I got out I took Oxy for one day and Tylenol 3 for a week or ten days. My tumour was 5cm and hemorragic and leaking hormones into my system. I went back to work part-time 7 weeks out. Now in week 8, I can honestly say I have never felt better in years. The physical part of feeling great is great but psychological part was huge. I appreciate smaller things in life like a cool breeze, seeing the fog roll in, the sunset on the mountains and of course my dog. I find myself focused on the important things in life and leaving the rest. I was curious as to how your procedure went for you?

Each day is better then the last

Hi well the surgery went well I was in the OR for about 5 hours and had 5 days in the hospital. This was my first surgery and the pain was pretty intense, the first few days I was on a morphine pump then on day 3 I was moved on to oxycodone for the next week and then on to tramadol and tylenol for the next week and then just tylenol. I was out of work for 7 weeks and went back part time for 2 weeks. I still have strange pains ever now and then. I had my first scan in Nov and was NED and will be going again for another one in March or the beginning of April. After healing for the most part, the hardest thing for me is the emotional part, which has gotten better as time goes on. But there are days that my emotions are right on the surface and anything can set me in a tail spin, where all I want to do is nothing, It is hard to explain. It is getting better and that is all that matters. Also I find that I don’t sweat the small stuff, and I laugh easier then before. Let me now how you are doing? Steve

I had a radical nephrectomy in early December. It was done laproscopically. Took 3-4 hours. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and went back to work after 6 weeks.

I'm taking part in a clinical trial, so feeling a lot of fatigue and some nausea and other issues, so not really feeling too great even though it's over 3 months since the surgery. I had a full scan 4 weeks ago (part of the start of this trial) and was NED. Glad for that. I had a stage 3 tumor, so I have a high risk of it coming back. The tumor was 6.8 cm and had grown into some of the veins, so it had access to my blood supply.

Congratulation on being NED

I am sorry that you are having some issues, glad to hear that the clinical trial seems to be working for you. My RCC was stage 1 and grade 2 and my tumor was 2.7 cm and I lost the bottom third of my right kidney. After the operation and for the following 2 or 3 months  I didn't have any appetite and lost 15 pounds then it came back two fold  in fact I gained 35 pounds, and I have a hard time to stop eating. Here's to many more years of being NED
