Question?

This is just a question, 6 weeks out of rads and doing pretty good,
taste improving a little, then disapears, very dry mouth and a sore throat
well its not the throat it the back of the mouth before the throat that's
really sore but overall not complaining I'm doing well. My question is
it seems my nasal passages are blocked (not with buggers) from the back of the nose to
the opening of the throat. I used to have post nasal drip but not anymore and
when I sleep I breath through the mouth which in turn really makes my dry mouth
worse. I don't know if this is allergies as I've never really had allergies before and
wouldn't know what to expect, any comments appreciated.

God bless
Tonsil Dad,

Dan.

    Sorry
I can't be of much help. My nose is always running, keep kleenex in pocket at all times. My upper lip is numb so I sometimes don't know that it is running--oh well. I do remember that it was difficult for some time to blow my nose. I do have an appointment in July with ENT--I always feel like there is water in my ear, when I lay down at night it sounds like water is moving from one ear to the other. Also get dizzy, I try not to bend over, really spin when I try to pick something up off of the floor. Cancer surgeon only deals with cancer, referred me back to primary care or ENT. I try to get back to the ENT yearly, he is the one that originally dx cancer.

    Could it be left over
inflammation for the rads...swelling? My nose will be plugged up tight for hours, nothing to blow out, but no way can I breath thru it....then suddenly will clear for a little while, and plug up tight again (always seems plugged at night), so mouth breathing and the dry mouth wakes me up.

When my ENT tubed me last time, even tho my nose didn't feel sore, he said my nostrils and the whole pharnyx were ravaged (his word)...

Might take some more healing time.....Just a thought.

doing good at only 6 wks
T.D., only 6 weeks out, I am sure you are still FRIED from rads. All that you describe happened to me also after rads, but it does get better and then ultimately it went away for me. Like P51 says, it could also be swelling.

I think you are doing great for such a short time.
It may help to "sleep" as best you can in a recliner for a bit and see if that helps some.

    Dan,
It's ok to complain #1. Have you contacted your ENT ? Sounds pretty common believe it or not. And yes most of this does eventually go away. I used magic mouth wash for awhile to help with some of this. Very expensive...ask your oncology nurse for receipe.
It's cheaper to make it yourself. Also I too sleep in the recliner on bad nites...really does help ! Hope you feel stronger real soon ! Katie
Magic mouth wash is fantastic ! But for me too expensive...used liquid beneydrl and liquid lidocaine, So no it is NOT magic mouth wash .....

    Never worked.
I've had two batches of MM and it never did anything for me,
I even made sure it was 2% lidocaine but nothing, nada, zilch no
numbness what so ever. I use liquid hydracodone once a day
before my main evening meal ( I eat normal foods, steak, chicken,
fish ) and I persivere throughout the day with anything else I eat
or drink. My problem is I can't breath through the nose, it seems
blocked from the back of the nose to the back of the throat. No
buggers the front part is all clear but I can't do a good ( hock tui )
if you understand what that is. It driving me crazy and it make my
dry mouth worse cause I have to sleep and breath through the
    mouth.

    God bless
