Ileocecal Valve Syndrome

I had appendix cancer in 2007. I had a debulking surgery that included a right hemicolectomy. Last year, I started having horrible constipation alternating with out of control diarrhea. after much testing, I found a gastro dr who told me what the problem was. When they removed part of my colon, they removed the ileocecal valve. This valve controls the bacteria between the large and small intestine. Without it, bacteria can build up, thus causing flu like symptoms and or constipation. It's too bad the dr who performed the surgery couldn't have warned me about this!!!!! The treatment is to go on cipro when diarrhea starts becoming a chronic problem.
