in Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) #1
hi everyone! i am ja from the philippines. i was diagnosed having HODGKIN's LYMPHOMA 2008 and had my 6 cycles of chemo for one year which ended feb 2009.. and until now i haven't had my menstrual period since then. im dying to know if i can possibly have it back! i am 28 now. and have this heavy pressure on me not to get pregnant in the near future :(

    I had non hodgkins lymphoma a long time ago but the first courses of chemo put me into premature menopause and that was it for periods for me. I was about 38 at the time. Many things have changed in chemo drugs for many cancers since I had my treatments but I still hear of this early menopause happening for some treatments. The best advice I can give you is to talk to your family doctor and in the meantime you can google sites that are reputable online like this one and the Mayo Clinic or Sloan Kettering Hospital sites online and look for info about your issues. First thing though, talk to your doctor.

    You are not alone in some of your symptoms no doubt so don't hesitate to post other questions on this site and people will answer.

    ABVD or r-ABVD is the most common treatment for HL, and one or more of the drugs in it can cause sterility. I suspect that female sterility and chemically-induced menopause ("No periods") are related. You can look this up at chemocare.com.

    I would contact my former doctors regarding this question. It is basic protocol for them to give you information regarding it.

    Adriamycin (one of the drugs in ABVD) reportedly causes sterility in 10% of users, both male and female. Of course, you need to determine if you ever took this drug.... I wish you well !

    Speedyart,

    I was tx with ABVD for Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1994. I had a succesful pregnancy in 1996.
