1yr post radiation still having excruciating pain

how long does it take for your quality of life to come back as much as possible effects my sleep and always in pain and i just cant take it much more sometimes dont even want clothes to touch it always red and soar what r my options other then the obvious hope all u ladies r as good as can be i wish the best for each and every person on this board and the others too cancer is a beast and it needs to be put down

    Have you been back to your radiation onc.?
    Maybe I'm wrong, but this seems like way too long to be still hurting from the rads. I had 33 rads in my breast, axilla and clavicular nodes. At the end it started to get pink, I continued to slather on the ointments and creams at least a month after the rads had ended, and I did not have any other problems. I know everyone is different, and healing goes differently for each of us, but this seems extreme.

    I would make an appointment with the rad. onc. right away. If that doesn't help--try your oncologist or primary care physician. You shouldn't be suffering in this way.

    so sorry you have such pain. I can not relate..i had NO side effects from radiation so I can only imagine!

    You don't say what part is painful and what is still red (inflammation). How long has it been since you have seen your radiation oncologist? Did he/she see the redness and what did they say about the pain?

    Since you believe it was due to radiation, I would make an appointment with this doctor first.

    To me this sounds like the pain could be related to neuropathy....nerve pain....I have it in my breasts due to a second round of radiation to my clavicle area...one area of my breast was overlapped for the first 10 of 25 rads...I was warned about possible nerve damage and sure enough I got it...it was terrible pain...as if someone had poured gasoline on my breast and set them on fire...I actually cried it hurt so bad...I was put on Gabapentin and it totally changed my life...and the dosage can be adjusted as needed...as for the redness...no clue....I would make an appointment with your radiation oncologist...needless to suffer..

    I still have pain
    but it's not at all excruciating nor do I have any redness. Don't you still see your radiation oncologist? Mine saw me every 4 months for the first year. Then she decided I was doing well and we'd just see each other if needed. I finished radiation 18 months ago and my boob is still tender - just about everywhere. It is very tender/sore to touch. Sometimes I get shooting pains. But the pain has been much much better lately and it was never excruciating. I think it's not unusual to have the discomfort that I have, but not what you're experiencing. Please make an appointment with your rad onc.

    This seems like an awful long time to still be having pain from radiation. Please contact your radiation dr. I hope you feel better soon.

    I don't know, but, I wouldn't think you would be having problems like this from rads a year later. Do you see your rads oncologist regularly? What does he say? I hope you can get some relief.

    Just agreeing with the others. Please talk to your doctor. Also check on the Gabapentin (spelling), I don't need it myself but it works great for my husband.
