in Ovarian Cancer #1
Well, I am into my weekly chemo for 3 treatments and in the last few days my head is sore and the hair is falling out. Honestly, of everything we have to go through this is my biggest mountain to get over. But, it is here and I just have to endure it. So my question is....how long does it take for the eyebrows and lashes to fall out? Mine seem pretty secure so far. Kim

    My brows and eyelashes were the last to fall out and I did not lose all of them. After my six treatments, I still have some eyelashes and enough brows left that I can see where I need to use the brow pencil.

    My eyebrows and eyelashes starting thinning and then were just gone. Good news is that they return quite quickly once you stop chemo. This is definitely a big mountain, but you can do this. It might help to wear a knit hat to sleep in while your head is feeling tender.

    Hair loss
    I lost my hair after the first treatment. Guess everyone is different. Am almost ready for the third treatment and have not lost my eyebrows or eye lashes yet. Sure not looking forward to that. Did not know that my head could get so sore. I think it does help to wear a sleep cap to bed..

    Thanks for the helpful replies. I have had a rough day with the whole hair loss. I am struggling with this as I am sure everyone has. There is at least hope eyebrows and lashes are secure for now. I had my daughter cut my hair today and it was my first day out in a scarf. I felt like everyone was staring at me!!!Kim

    Yes loosing the hair is tough....as most everyone reminded me this is nothing, as in time we're used to no hair. If memory serves me correct, I lost my eyebrows and few eyelashes a month or so after the hair being gone. Learn to become creative in makeup to brush on eyebrows and use darker eyeliner to give color to the lids. Thank God for makeup!!

    Staring? Yep same feeling here, but with time that was a distant memory as well. Considering a wig? I used the wig more for professional events and scarves and B-ball caps for exercising and bouncing around the home.

    Hang in there, it does get better!!!!

    wig yes
    I have a wig, it just needs to get cut to my style. Trying to link my stylist with my new wig stylist. Hopefully it will be ready soon. Kim

    I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes, but it didn't happen until maybe a couple of months into treatment, after I lost the hair on my head. After treatment, my brow and eyelashes came back pretty quickly. Losing my hair was not a tramatic issue for me as I felt it was the least of my worries with all that I was going through. My hair is growing back now, and the short hair style is kind of fun. There is a certain kind of beauty to women who lose their hair to cancer....people will root for you and support you and are awed by your strength as you go through treatment. So be encouraged...your are beautiful!

    I know how you feel.....
    Losing my hair was so emotional for me. My daughter is a hair stylist so we went out and picked a wig out, and she surprised me by buying it for me. When I had enough of my hair coming out in clumps when I touched it, my husband and I went to my daughter's house and she cut it all off down to about an inch. As she was doing it the three of us cried, and cried. I wear the wig mostly when I go out in public, scarves feel less heavy, and hot.But feel too self conscious going without. My eyelashes are just thinning out now, and I am half way thru treatment.
    Hang in there....as everyone else has said to me it's just hair, and will grow back.

    started falling out 13 days after my first infusion. My eyelashes didn't fall out right away. In fact on a visit to my onc she asked if those were my real eyelashes and I said yes. She ws suprised they hadn't fallen out yet. I never really lost my eyebrows although I am sure they thinned out some.

    Good advice about wearing a cap to bed. It helps.

    You are definately not alone. I'm sure there is someone on this board that has gone through whatever each of us have. That is why I think of this board as a Godsend.

    I think once
    it all falls out it is okay. I think it is the nubs that hurt. At least as I can recall.

    For me the pain
    only lasted about 3 days, then when I cut it down short, it was gone. We were told not to
    shave your head down to the scalp, but rather leave about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Otherwise your follicles tend to become damaged, and you could also break out in a pimple like rash.
    I get a little cold at night, but then I still wake up with the night sweats, and hot flashes. So I don't wear any hats or scarves at night.
    On the plus side of losing your hair....it sure makes showering and getting ready for things so much faster!!!! Got to look for a bonus somewhere!!

    now. This does not bother me any more because each time I lose my hair I think how the chemo is killing the cancer. I now am so use to no hair and find it very easy to get ready to go out, no more fussing with hair for now. sending hugs and prays Kathy

    brows were last to go for me
    I lost all my hair very fast within two weeks of first treatment. My brows lasted until my last treatment.
