Nothing about this disease is simple

So my wife goes to get blood Tuesday... simple right... just go get the blood!! She has had blood before no problem. Wrong seems she has a very very rare antigen in her blood according to the nurse and they had none in the hospital. No big deal they call the Red Cross they check and find out there is none here on the east coast. So they do a national search and find some in Wisconsin and another form some other state out west. So they are flying it in and she'll get it Monday the day before treatment. They are testing our daughters today to see if either will match. This is crazy!!!!! Anyone here ever had this problem.

    It's amazing
    how special this disease makes us feel in a perverse way. Start with the odds of even having ovarian cancer.

    I hope your daughters are a match so your wife will have a more accessible supply if she needs it.

    So sorry
    So sorry your wife is having troubles with her blood, on top of everything else. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your daughters are a match.

    I've been lucky; I only needed blood once (about four pints) and that was during my surgery. I will always be so grateful to the person who donated the blood that helped to save my life.

    You and Tina must feel like you're on such a rollercoaster. I have no experience in the area you are referring to. But I'm curious - with all the surgeries and other blood work your wife has had why didn't they notice this before? Is it something that developed over this process with the cancer?

    Praying that your daugthers will indeed be able to be a source of blood for Tina, if necessary. I watch everyday and wait for word from you about Tina. Thank you for taking the time during these difficult moments to share with us and keep us up-to-date.

    I have a rear blood type it
    I have a rear blood type it is B+ which only 5 percent of the people in the world have that kind of blood so I don't know what would happen if I needed it. Well I do know my adoptive mom has even more of a rear blood I am not sure all the factoers but it is O I think with a double negative anyone can have her blood and because of the double thing her blood is good for infents and cancer patitents so she will be giveing me blood.

    My husband has B+...let me know if you get in a fix and I will have him donate through Red Cross and they can get it to you! Best, debrajo

    Thank you so much I really have never had anyone say that besides my adoptive mom that they would help out if I need it. I love this website we are all looking out for each other. Thank you so so much.

    Tina is getting her blood as I type this. This condition although very very rare from what the nurses said this morning with only one other person that they have been transfusing through there many years had developed this. They have been doing this a long time. It is a antigen (antibody or white blood cell) that gets mutated from blood transfusions. Weird right? They got a hold of her Dr and told him to make sure he gives them 2 weeks notice and not to let her get to low before ordering it. Sometime it not good to be unique.

    I always knew that man was good for something! Just didn't know what for! Don't know where you live, but if you really need it he will donate it in your name and the Red cross will see that you get it. It ain;t over til the fat lady sings...and I haven;t opened my mouth all evening! Best, Debrajo

    DEAR DAVE AND TINA
    I know what you mean - being special is great, but not like this. As if you didn't have enough to deal with. . . but it sounds as though the medical staff will be on top of this from now on and will be looking out for Tina's best interests. My mom received blood transfusions during her cancer journey, but I wasn't aware of this possible 'side affect'. I suppose if they told us everything that cold happen, we might not do it. But, receiving precious blood to strengthen our body and help us to heal is stil is huge blessing.

    I am O positive, and I'm almost sure that I can give to anyone, but can only receive O positive. If that's the case, and if I am able to give blood being NED for the last 6 years, I would be more than happy to donate on Tina's behalf.

    You both continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. May God continue to give both of you the strength needed, moment by moment, day by day.

    Thank you everyone so much. No chemo today as her counts are way to low. I will be starting a new post on todays dr appt.
