Mom has been diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer. one large mass on right lung, other lung had a lymph node affected so no surgery. she just started treatment....proton therapy radiation and I beleive taxol once a week. she is 74 and relatively good health. I've looked at survival rates and they are quite sobering.
I am really not sure what to expect in terms of....does she have any hope? is proton radiation and taxol a reasonable plan of attack? what kind of diet should she follow? some advocate a very clean diet with a lot of antioxidants, protein.
I am at a loss and don't know if we are doing right by her. I thought proton radiation was a better choice since it would in theory spare more of her healthy tissue.
