Wife just diagnosed with stage 4b cancer
My wife has just recently been diagnosed with stage 4 b lung cancer (14cm x 9cm tumor) and it has spread to her liver (5cm, 3cm, 2cm and 1/2 cm). She starts a cocktail of chemo treatments tomorrow, Carboplatin, Pemetrexed and Bevacizumab. A friend has also told me that maybe we should try alternative medicines. He claims a 92% success rate which I found to be a little much if you ask me. Has anyone tried alternative medicines and if you have was there any success in it. I am also a cancer survivor, rectal and have been cancer free now for 1 1/2 years. Thanks for any info any of you may be able to provide me. Regards, Larry

Hi Larry. Glad you found
Hi Larry. Glad you found your way here and congrats on your Survivor status!! I have no experience with alternative meds but have lung cancer myself and have done well on traditional treatments (chemo and rads). When you do add any alt meds, check with your doc because some interfere with chemo drugs.
With regards to your friends claim of 92% success rate: if true his name would be a household word and he would have a Nobel Prize.0 -
So sorry
to hear of your wife's dx. Being a survivor yourself, (congratulations on that!) you already have a wealth of knowledge to help her get thru this. You already know about finding a treatment plan and team that you both feel comfortable with. You know the questions to ask and you already (presume you had chemo) know about the side effects of chemo during treatment and the importance of fluids, calories etc. You already know this is a rough road but you can do this and your wife can do this. Stay positive and strong, CRMan. As for alternative tx.....like Dennycee said....it would be a household word if it were true. But that doesn't mean to give up! I am a believer in supplemental medicines due to the nutrition depletion and chemicals being added to our food chain. But I get approval by all my docs who are treating me. A source of information that I personally find helpful is a book called "Anti-cancer, a new way of life" written by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PHD. A cancer survivor and researcher. He does not promote alternative tx but does promote supplemental with references and studies. I am sure your anxiety level is at the top but you will be a wonderful support system for your wife. I am glad you have found us and there are many here, who have been where you are and have been where your wife is, that will be able to encourage you both. Keep us posted and let us know how you are both doing. You are not alone in this...we are here with you. Blessings and prayers to you both. Cheryl0 -
stage 4
HI,I also have stage 4 lung cancer & proudly tell everyone that I'm in REMISSION for the 2nd time in 5yrs. I went 3 yrs in Remission then it returned & spread to my Esophagus & 3 tumors on my liver {2 on the right lobe & 1 on the left }. Chemo & Radiation took care of the tumor on my Esophagus and a fairly new procedure took care of the liver ,,,TACE=
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE } ,,PLEASE bring this up to your wifes dr and see what they think. I did get very sick from the 1st treatment & it required 3 but the 1st & only treatment did the trick ,,killed all 3 by the Grace of God .I feel great & am living life like a normal person ,,the key is being Positive & having Great Doctors. Bless you & your wife.0 -
