As the annual Defense appropriations cycle starts once again, The "New" Prostate Cancer InfoLink encourages all US-based prostate cancer patients and other US-based voters to e-mail your Congressman or Congresswoman and ask them to support prostate cancer research funding through the "Dear Colleague" letter being circulated by Representative Pete King in the House of Representatives.
You can use the action alert system provided on the ZERO -- The Project Against Prostate Cancer web site to write to your Congressperson. Either use the form letter provided or customize the letter to meet your personal needs. ... But please write today and tell your friends and relations to write their Congressman or Congresswoman too.
Last year we were all able to work together to maintain funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) of the Department of Defense's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) at $70 million. We need to succeed in doing this again this year. This program has been key to bringing us abiraterone acetate and (probably) MDV3100. We expect it to bring us a continuing stream of other new agents over the next few years ... but to do this we need to keep the funding level for this program up at current levels even in this "down economy."
Please take 5 minutes now to write your Congressperson. Don't put off till tomorrow (and therefore forget) something important you can do NOW!
