Drove to pick up Dad in assited living (2 hours) to take him to visit Mom in hospital (1 hour) Got there 10 minutes after they moved her to the nursing home. Just a walk across the parking lot, except Dad is in a wheel chair and we had that yucky rain/snow mix.

Got to Mom's room, where she was in a tizzy, already to walk out (she can't walk) because there was no TV or phone. Also "no one knows about my medicine! I need a Valium (God, so did I). And my breathing treatment is due, get me out of here" yadda and so forth. Dad was happy to see Mom, but confused about why he couldn't go home, why she was in the nursing home, and it was his lunch time, so we packed up and went around the corner to Friendly's for his favorite basket of chicken.

Back to see Mom, got the TV, the phone set up is different than the hospital so I need to buy her a cell, which she expected immediately, but I had to get Dad back. Weather was absolutely stinky and it was rush hour. Sending hubby up to Walmart or wherever we can get a cheap cell phone & minutes 1st thing in the morning.

The woman we dealt with at the nursing home was a atither about Mom's paperwork. Mom contradicted all that we had come to agree with as to DNR, DNI, treatments, etc that we had signed at the hospital.

So, 277 miles in 9 hours, crappy weather, upset parents and one pounding headache. And my husband - the one I always complain about? He's a SAINT!!! Chauffered me, etal, all over central NY and will be running errands endlessly. We plan to pack up my parents apt this weekend to move out at the end of the month, storing everything here - yikes. Meanwhile, working full time, daughter moved back home - not going so well - and, heck! I'm no spring chicken!!!

Thanks to you all for a listening ear, sometimes, you just need to vent - or let out a primal scream.

Love to you all!

Sue

    Yes, venting does help~
I also tend to buy a large quantity of chocolate and lock myself in a room with it~ self medicating is my style when it comes to stress~~

    Oh sweet Sue
you just vent away. What a day you've had (with more to come, I'm guessing). I'm hoping soon this craziness will settle down and you'll be able to get some much needed R&R. I know first hand what a worry our elderly parents can be. We so want to help them and take care of them--but let's face it--it's a lot--especially when sometimes we need the TLC ourselves.

Please be sure to take good care of yourself, Sue. I hope there are others that you can delegate some of these tasks to.

Hoping you are snuggling with that great hubby of yours watching a great movie.

    Love and hugs, Renee

Wow Sue you sure had your hands full today. I hope you remember to take care of yourself. I am having similar issues with my mom. We love them but the mood swings are sometimes very hard to take. When she's like that, if I said the moon was beautiful tonight, she would say, there's no moon!
I hope that gave you a chuckle, but I'm not exaggerating one bit.

Take care my friend and I'm sending you some strength to get through it all. I'm so glad your husband was there for you because that makes all the difference in the world.

    Oh Sue,
Sending you a big cyber hug. Unfortunately, I know everything you are going through with your parents. Hang in there, be strong, but remember you have to watch out for yourself too, or you won't be any good to them.

    xoxo,
    Jean

Sue ... gentle hugs for you ...
I am sending you lots of love, emotional support and prayers for strength, and
peace during this very difficult time.

Please remember to take a few minutes to sit and reflect on your blessings which
of course includes your HUBBY -- job, family, friends, along with the fact that you are able
to handle all this emotional and physical stress. Dealing with aging parents at any age -- takes it toll on each and everyone of us.

    Praying for you, dear Sister.

Strength, Courage and HOPE for a Cure.
