Thyroid and now Ovarian

in Ovarian Cancer #1
I had thyroid cancer ten years ago and last summer had zero tumor markers. Hooray! But now I found out my ca 125 is 76. After reading so much about ovca and this board I feel silly to be worried! Had ultrasounds yesterday and tomorrow get MRIs. Pelvic exam on Friday.

Any one else had this low of ca 125? What was your prognosis? Thanks!

    CA-125
    There are two methods of testing for CA-125, with different ranges for normal. One has a normal range of 0-21, the other 0-34. So, your CA-125 is elevated. It is not uncommon, however, to have a false positive reading for CA-125, as it is a measure of inflammation. So there are many issues that could elevate that number. There's no way to determine whether ovarian cancer is present of the stage of ovarian cancer from the CA-125 alone. You're doing the right thing with regard to the tests you are having. If they come back positive, you want to find yourself an experienced gynecological oncologist to do surgery. No other type of doctor will do. If there is ovarian cancer present, the stage of it will determine the prognosis. Hope your tests are negative.

    Thanks for taking the time to write back. The waiting is very hard. Perhaps the CA 125 is elevated from the rhuematoid arthritis and fibromyalgia.

    Sjk,
    I hope there is some other cause. Waiting IS always the hardest part. As an aside, I just noticed your list of medical issues, and they all seem related to autoimmune. I work with a naturopath to try to remain in remission. I too have autoimmune issues. She says these are all a result of gluten in the diet. Just a head's up if you're willing to make dietary changes to address your issues.
