any other stage 4 stomach cancer people out there doing ok?

My mom was diagnosed w/ stage 4 stomach cancer and she has been doing well. She actually does not have any debilitating pain and knock on wood, no major symptoms, aside from when she's on chemo.

Anyone else out there?

I was diagnosed in June/July 2011 with stage IV stomach cancer, spread to my lymph, my omentum, and along the outsides of my bowels. I was only 32 (am 33 now). My only symptom was a long history of a "sensitive stomach" and then I got a horrible pain in my left side that led to my diagnosis. Since then I have done 11 rounds of chemo. For the most part I have been symptom free, other then as you say the symptoms from chemo themselves. A few weeks ago I did develop pain ascites (liquid buildup in the abdomen) but have had that drained & am back off any pain meds at the moment. Keep your spirits up, this is a horrible disease but it sounds like you mom is doing good at the moment & it's best to focus on that.

I looked at your blog briefly, but I have bookmarked it and will definitely take the time to read about your experiences. I've been meaning to start a blog and still plan intend to esp now since blogspot allows you to date the posts..just need to go through my journal and such. My mom gets scanned on Feb 20 so just keeping fingers crossed that it'll be good news. Definitely keeping spirits up is good, and I know atleast 5 stage 4 people who have been doing well - 3 who've had liver mets (1 currently has no active cancer/ remission fighting for 4 yrs, 1 off treatment at the moment- depends on scan- fighting for 4yrs, 1 diagnosed stage 4 in 09 and achieved remission and did surgery. TWO with distant lymph mets - one in lungs and lymph- diagnosed in 08 but has been in remission since 10 i believe, and one who was diagnosed with lymph and abdomen metsand achieved remission and went ahead and did surgery not too long ago-- he is also very young- mid 30s.

Here is another one for you. My husband, mid 40's has stage 4 stomach with bone as secondary and lymph mets. He was diagnosed 10/2011, has had 6 rounds of chemo and has done very well. Has not had to take pain meds in over 2 months! Our issue now is they can not do anymore of the type of chemo they were doing so we have to change things up. Hoping things stay on the good side! Hope your mom's scan comes back with good news!

actually, my mom told me that when she gets hungry or she's eaten too much, her stomach hurts but it is a fleeting pain and goes away. I am hoping it's the after effects of chemo. treatments take such an emotional toll.
Best of luck with the new course of action. having options is good.

Just a not to let you know that I had stage 4 stomach cancer ....I'm now in my 5th year and you know what ??? no sign of cancer.... It can be done !!!.... It is a bloody hard road as I'm sure you know but there are survivours....I know this because Iam one of them... I was 33 when I was diagnosed... I still take oral chemo everyday to keep it away but it is a small price to pay.... Sending you good wishes from Australia...xxx

have2believe, that was the only symptom my husband has had. Matter of fact that was the reason he ended up going to see the doctor and getting diagnosed.

ambermaree36, I would love to hear more of your story, if you dont mind sharing. For example what type of treatment you were on? Did you do any type of natural treatment? My Husband was just diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and has mets on his liver. Thanks in advance.

Hello to all! Stay positive!! My husband is doing well and has been in chemo since august 2009. Already has in his body 60 cycles of chemotherapy. He was diagnosed with gastric cancer and mets to the liver. He is 33 now and he is a very strong man! I am so proud of him! He taught me how to fight in this life and how to be positive!

We live in Sag Harbor NY and we try to enjoy life everyday! now we are trying to get pregnant.. I know many of you and even myself will think that is creazy to add more stress in our lives but we have to keep living! this cancer cannot take all from us!

My husband is taking herbal teas, chemotherapy in Sloan kettering every other week, and suplements. We changed our diet to most of all organic, not chicken, not meat!
If you need any help send me a message and I am happy to let you know what are we doing to keep our body strong and keep beating cancer!

It is tough! but you can do it! fight fight fight!!

Daniela,Ambamari,your stories give us hope and we would be happy to have more details of the chemotherapy given.I have not been on this site for the last 5 months since my son developed lymphnode mets.He was diagnosed in August 09,underwent 3 cycle before and after total gastrectomy at 30.Since October he is on irinotecan,leucovorin 5F_U and Erlotinib and responding well.I am interested in finding out more about maintenance chemotherapy and the drug doses and frequency.The road ahead is tough but we have to give it a good fight.Good wishes to you all and love from a mother from India.

Keep up the good fight! your son is young like my husband and they have a lot of strength to fight this horrible illness! stay strong next to him. He needs you!

My husband started with 5 FU, avastin, docetaxel and Cisplatin. After the 13th cycle of chemo, his doctor discontinued cisplatin because of an allergic reaction and now after long time with docetaxel, 5 Fu and Avastin his dr. decided to stop docetaxel to give him a chemo break. So in summary he is now with 5fu and avastin . The tumors reduced 85% in size since diagnose and now they are stable.

He also, takes many supplements from dr. Block and dr. Dalzell and 4 herbal teas from dr. Wong.

Good morning Amber,
I read your post, amazing!!! Praise God. My friend has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer Jan 2012, he has undergone 7 chemo sessions. He has lost almost 30kg. We are praying and believing. I desperately need any advice for them, please. I am also trying to find out any information regarding surgery. I pray and hope you are well. Blessings

Good morning Daniela,
I have been reading your posts, I hope and pray your husband are doing well. I am asking help for a very dear friend of mine in South Africa. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in Jan 2012. He has undergone 7 chemo sessions. Any advise for him and his family, please? He has lost almost 30kg, his family is devastated. Drs may prefer chemo first
Many doctors do chemo and then surgery followed by more chemo and radiation. Also, it may not have spread to other organs, but if it has spread to the abdominal wall, peritoneum, distant lymph nodes, it is still stage 4. Weight loss is often an issue. My recommendation is to try to eat a little every few hours even if it's just a few bites. Try different foods to see what you can stomach, as your taste preferences will change/ have changed.

Hi Daniela,I haven't been on
Hi Daniela,I haven't been on this site for months.Our son Atish lost his fight to gastric cancer on the 17th of this month.Though his body weakened his spirit was unconquerable and he smiled to the end.Left us a lot of happy memories.
