I've talked about the Retreats I go to twice a year. I just found out the dates for the next one - April 27 - 29, 2012.
It is done at the Ft. Meade VA facility in Sturgis , SD.. It is for women veterans of any era and the collaterals (wives/SO/mothers/sisters/daughters) of any veteran with PTSD. There is no cost for the Retreat (DAV and other private donations cover all the costs). It basically runs from noon Fri to shortly after noon Sun. Room and food (the guys cook great food) is covered.
It is in South Dakota but not limited to women in South Dakota. There is a maxium of 35 that can do any Retreat.
As far as I have heard this is the only such Retreat in the country. I first started going to them in probably '97 - stopped for a while and started again. It is very different than some Retreats in that it's not a time to loaf around - you are pretty much busy in one way or another from breakfast (about 8 - watches are taken off, if you need to keep up time for meds then it goes in pocket.) and evening (usually back to rooms about 9:30 - of course there is lunch and supper and always plenty or snackies. No 2 Retreats are even close to the same as any other one for me - I gain so much from each one.
For more info if interested go to www.blackhills.va.gov or call 1-800-743-1070 ext.7449.
