What happens now after AML is in complete remission

My husband (32 years old) finished his AML treatment at the end of September after 5 rounds of chemo. He's fianlly in complete molecular remission. His cells were growing back very slowly but they are growing. First he was seen every week for blood tests. Now every month. Doctor said that after 6 months, his blood will be checked every 3 months. However, my question is, won't he be requiring another examination and check him molecularly? How can we know that the cancer is not coming back? What are the chances of it coming back if he was normal karyotype and had NPM1 and FLT3-TKD mutations.

    I'm glad to hear your hubby is in complete remission, usually they do a bmb every 3 months thats the only way they can keep an eye on the remission to make sure there are no abnomal cells growing since with the biopsy they can tell 3 months prior it appears on his blood, but I guess is up to your oncologist it also depends I will guess on his risk of relapse, best of luck 2 you guys and to remain in remission for many years to come!!

    I go every 2 months for
    I go every 2 months for basic bloodwork and they can watch for any issues that way. If my bloodwork looks good and things are rebuilding I can stay that way for a while, if the slighest thing looks off then it is BMB time.

    They can tell alot by simple things, including how he is feeling. Watch for brusing easily, feeling tired, simple cuts not healing, that type of thing.

    after consolidations
    I'm 1 1/2 months post-treatment, chemo only
    I go every 2 weeks for bloodwork but my Dr says it'll end up being every month (I think that's the plan in year 1)
    He also told me the standard is just to draw blood but he prefers to do a BMB every 3 months.

    Normally when you go for one month visit or three month visit they do a complete blood test and that will give them a lead on how well you are doing.
    approximately every three months they will do a bone marrow biopsy and that will definitely tell them if you are slipping out of remission. Some of these doc you have to push hard to get answers. But generally the blood word is the key. Stop worrying, I can feel your stress if your husband is feeling fine just live and enjoy the moment. If your husband dosen't feel he can go back and talked to the doctors. so take care my friend. until i hear from you
