My thyroid was fried by radiation
It shows mostly atrophy on scans now. Here's the argument for this being no big deal. You have developed calcifications without a discrete mass in the thyroid. This happened during treatment for NPC. Think of the odds this related to treatment for your NPC. Now think of the odds this is cancer and just happened to come up at the time you were being treated for an unrelated cancer.
The odds are strongly in favor of this being related to your treatment, not a second malignancy.

No experience but I am praying for a benign result.

Cathelene: I had the same that longtermsurvivor says above-- thyroid fried during radiation...Just did an ultrasound 2 wks ago and they said what I had were "nodules", which they said were pretty normal for my age group (56), and nothing to be concerned about. They had put me on the Synthroid (sp?) a few months ago, and have been gradually increasing the dosage. I am hoping you have the same good outcome.0 -
Agree with LTS on the Odds
More than likely very high odds that it's residual related to rads from treatment.
Most have damage from the rads and many eventually either are or will go on some form of meds such as Synthroid or another synthetic hormone medication.
In your case with calcification, I have no knowledge other than a high probability of residual damage.

Found a thyroid nodule with me also. It's only a big deal because we fear the worst. They did a FNA and it turned to be nothing to worry about. I'm also on synthroid for a fried thyroid. The odds are with you on this one.0 -
Thank you!
Thank you all for your replies. I am not too worried now. My fingers are crossed for good results.
