Bi-Rads D4 Suspicious Malignancy

I popped over here from the EC board (mom's pic is my avatar). I had a bad mammo screen, followed up with diagnostic mammos (5) and bilateral ultrasound. I am Bi-Rads D4 on both breasts, both recommended for in-hopsital biopsy.

Anybody here with Bi-Rads D4 who came out clean - no cancer?

I'm waiting for the hospital to call with the date/time of my biopsy. No history of BC in my family. Just my mom with EC.

I am out of the loop with mammograms and I confess that I had to look up Bi-Rads D4. For the rest of you who are clueless, Bi-Rads stands for Breast Imaging Reporting and Data Systems. Breasts are staged by density and D4=extremely dense.

"Elevated MBD (mammographic breast density) is considered one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer regardless of whether it is assessed as a categorical or quantitative measure. Women in the highest categories of breast density have a 4- to 6-fold increased breast cancer risk compared with women in the lowest categories."

I don't think mammograms were even graded this way back in the 80's when I was diagnosed, so I can't help. But I am praying for you. Please let us know how you do. (((Hugs)))

    D is the Density
    4 is the

    D is the Density
4 is the percentage chance of malignancy

    1 to 3 is benign
4 to 6 is high probability

I just was wondering how many were Bi-Rads D4 that turned out benign. (or IF there were any folks whose biopsy were good)

Good luck to you on your biopsy
certainly will pray that it is benign. I had never heard of this before. Thank you CC for the information, I looked at the post and then waited for someone to respond as I had never heard of this. I learn so much on this site.

Ginny I wish you the best, keep us posted and welcome to the bc support group. Best site in the world.

    Prayers,
    Carol

I didn't know what this was.
I didn't know what this was. It was used on each page of my diagnostic and ultrasound radiologist report. Right breast BIRADS D4 and then again on the bottom of the left breast. Left breast said no definitive malignancy, but on the right it said suspected malignancy.

I was just curious about the code.

I have a hunch that I'll be back on this section after the biopsy. Currently I'm on the EC boards for my mom's cancer. I'm her caregiver, so me ending up with breast cancer is a real bummer.
