Plastic linitis

in Stomach Cancer #1
My mom was last mom diagnosticated with plastic linitis, the doctors say it is phase IV, she is 55!! And she is loosing a lot of weight since one month ago, the doctors didnt want to remove her stomach because the cancer is already spread in the lymph nodes and other organs, I need some information about alternative treatments, she is going to start quemo this week, but I need to know is there some survivor of linitis plastic, my mom has a lot of trouble eating, she only eats small quantities of food, but some days she doesn't want to eat anything, if someone can help me with information about this disease and how to fight against it, we are from Mexico

    Hi there,
    My mum also was diagnosed w linitis plastica just before christmas and started an "ecf" chemo treatmt. She is on a continuous 5-fu infusion which I am told is a common way to deal w this type of cancer.As the cancer is growing near the base of her stomach near the opening to the duodenum, food could not get through so she kept feeling sick (pre chemo). So the docs inserted a stent to open up the area that way she can still eat. However soft foods only. She lost a lot of weight as well over 10kg but is eating small frequent meals now and keepg it down. Hope this helps Amman... Perhaps talk to the docs abt how to get her eatg?

    2nd round of chemo due this thursday. Am hoping that this works. The oncologist here was not keen on surgery as already spread to her bowel and peritoneals.

    If there is anyone out there that is going through same and is successfully fighting this? Am trying my best to keep my mum positive and support her any way I can. I think she's trying to be strong and is trying to fight the cancer... I have a 1 year old baby and her grandmother told me last week that she really wants to see her grow up, learn the piano and go to her 1st dat of school...

    Thank you for your answer Mizpiggy, My mom alredy has her first quimio, not to bad, but now she is having probles in her mouth, and she is very depressed I am trying to help her, but it is very difficult.

    There is hope! My husband was diagnosed last May with stage 4 which had also gone to lymph nodes. Surgery was not an option at that point as it was considered to be too advanced. He spent the summer having chemo every 2 weeks - 5FU and Oxapilatin, until August when there was a national shortage of 5FU in infusion form. He was given it instead in pill form - 10 pills a day for 2 weeks. He became so ill by day 13 that we took him to the emergency room where he was admitted. A Cat scan was done and they told us the tumor had shrunk! Immediate surgery was planned and he underwent a Gastrectomy where they removed part of his esophagus and some of his stomach. Although the surgery was brutal, he pulled through. After the pathology report came back they told him he was cancer free. It is going to be a long road to recovery, for 6 weeks he was on a feeding tube, he now eats by himself. We are 2 into 6 sessions of follow up chemo. God willing the cancer has gone for good. We spent a wonderful time with our family over Thanksgiving and Christmas - what a gift. I had not expected him to live for three months. Take each day as it comes and do not lose hope. This is definitely a very vicious form of cancer but it can be beaten. Good luck!
