Arms are leaking
put a port in his upper arm 2 weeks ago.(and also drained 12 pounds from his abdomen
again). Anyway, he developed a clot in his neck last week. They put him on shots in
his abdoman as well as cumundin (sp?) pills. Took him off both 2 days later as the
blood count showed too high a level. My question to you guys is this: his arms are
both swollen, the dr said the swelling was from the clot. The swelling is going down
now, but fluid is seeping through his skin on both arms. I have to wrap him up with
gauze like a mummy. It is the weirdest thing. But no one has told me if the seeping
will stop. They did a pet scan last week and we find out tomorrow what the results are.
Still haven't gotten any answers from the dr for the cause of the ascites in his
abdomen. I don't want bad news, I just would like some answers. Any of you guys
ever have the fluid problems like this? Thanks for your patience, Brenda

I'm sorry. With the swelling going down, the oozing should decrease and stop. As Kim recommends, write down your questions. Try to get some rest. I am no help, but thinking about you, and please let us know how you both are doing.0 -

I'm so sorry. I have no answers for you. I'm glad you don't have to wait long before you see the dr. I hope you get answers to all your questions. Making a list is a good idea. Also, hoping that the pet results are good. The two of you are in my prayers.

I'm with the others
I can't help, as I know nothing about this, I sure as heck would be asking a lot of questions of the doctor as to why it happens, etc., please let us know if you find any answers?
Hoping the swelling goes down more and the seeping stops. Let us know how the ct scan went too?
Thinking of you both.

Sorry I can't help with the seeping issue, but just wanted to give you some personal info about Coumadin. My hubby has been on Coumadin and Plavix(at different times) in the past due to having a pacemaker-defibrillator. He had to be especially careful not to get injured because it was very difficult to stop the bleeding(even a razor nick). Not trying to alarm you as this may not be the case for everyone, but just thought I would mention it.
Hope the scan results are good.

I had blood clots and have been on the Lovenox shot in the belly ever since diagnosis. Haven't been given both blood thinners at the same time, it seems extreme to me (but what do I know, I'm not a doctor) But, the lovenox alone has done the trick for me. As to the weeping of the arms, my mother in law had extreme swelling in both her legs, and they would weep at times. Once the swelling goes down it would stop. But, she would have to elevate her feet/legs to get the swelling down, so I don't know what the answer for swollen arms would be. Do they think it's an issue with the lymph nodes in his arms or chest area that could cause this??0 -

Thanks everyone for your comments. We received results from scan today. There is considerable lymph node involvement now, more spots in the liver and increased size of
rectal tumor. Dr. said the swelling is coming from the blood clot, and the disease
not allowing fluid to dispurse. Hoping that when the clot is taken care of, swelling
and weeping will decrease. He will have to have his abdomen drained again next week, as it is filling again with ascites. She is giving him antibiotics for cellulitis in the arm, will keep a watch on the cumondin (sp) levels and wants to start him on Victabix.
Hubby has asked not to start those infusions right now. He is really tired. Enough is enough. We want him to get some strength back. Santa Claus is coming!!!!!!!0 -
