I didn't realize
peanut butter may be an issue - I stay away from as much soy as I can, but I eat peanut butter by the jar full! I'm estrogen positive also - I'll do some checking and post anything I might find - I'd hate to give up peanut butter!

For what it is worth - I was diagnosed HIGHLY positive for Estrogen receptors and I rarely eat - or ate!- peanut butter.0 -

Seriously??? What in the heck is left for us to eat? I am 'strongly' ER and PR+. I can't eat soy (amazing how many things have soy in them), I can't drink booze, I can't eat sugar, now I can't eat peanut butter? I love the Peter Pan whipped creamy peanut butter. It feels like frosting! What else don't I know about? YIKES!0 -

I'm not sure yet,i'm waiting on someone to post so we'll know for sure,I know it's so hard i read labels now and your right just about everything has soy in it,i love the the regular creamy peter pan :)I buy stevia for sugar it's ok and I've gotten so use to not eating regular sugar when i do taste something sweetened with it it's to sweet now, like thanksgiving i gave a piece of pie a taste and oh my it was to sweet.#running out of food options Mollyz.0 -
Better ways to lower estrogen
Here are the best ways to lower estrogen according to Komen (not including meds):
"All women can lower their estrogen levels by [50,95]:
•Maintaining a healthy weight
•Limiting alcohol intake
•Being physically active
•Avoiding postmenopausal hormones (for postmenopausal women)"

The research on phytoestrogens (such as peanut butter) has been mixed. I would not even consider eliminating all such foods from my diet as many studies have shown a small to moderate amount of them may be more helpful than harmful.
"Soybeans—as well as other plants like flaxseed, certain grains, beans, fruits and vegetables—contain chemicals called phytoestrogens that mimic estrogen in the body. Some cell studies have shown soy can increase cancer cell growth [340-342]. However, lower rates of breast cancer are seen in many Asian countries where people eat a lot of soy. This seeming conflict has caused debate about the role of soy in breast cancer risk.
Some studies have found eating a diet high in soy and other phytoestrogens may lower the risk of breast cancer, while others have found no benefit [343-347]. Studies in Asian and Asian American women tend to show that women who eat the most soy have a lower breast cancer risk than women who eat the least soy. However, studies among non-Asian women have found no benefit of soy on breast cancer risk [344]. I never thought Peanut Butter was bad for us.A few years ago I needed or should I say wanted to gain some weight.People were saying OMG you lost some weight, Are you sick or something??? At that time I hadn't been dx.Anyway I looked on the jar of peanut butter and found some good ingredients and it is full of protein.One thing it was high in fat but I didn't care.Just what I was looking for.So I ate 2 tablespoons a day because it also helped my iron level.It worked.I gained 8 lbs and also my blood count went up.I was happy. In fact I eat Reese Cups everyday but now going to start back on my 2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter.Stress has brought me down since dx.
Soy is the one thing my doctor did say to stay away from but like someone said it is in EVERTHING.In most things I believe there isn't much but last year I wanted to gain weight again.I started on ENSURE knowing it had soy but very good for you.Went to my oncologist and she said NO.Now I drink Fusion.It isn't one that will put weight on you but 3 glasses a day give you your fruits and vegetables we are supposed to have daily.
I can't wait to hear more about this.Still though today I will start eating Peanut Butter. A couple tablespoons full.

I am ER and PR + and I LOVE peanut butter. I do not want to stop eating it, and, I won't. Seems like everything that is good is bad for you.

To me it's moderation. If you ate the whole jar of peanut butter that would be a concern. There isn't anything they can actually say, "this is it". One can always find studies pros or cons, I believe we are here to enjoy, not deprive ourselves over some unproven theory.
For you Lynn, a couple of full tablespoons are probably very good for you. Maybe even some peanut butter fudge.

My oncologist told me to avoid soy. But, he also said it can be hidden in many foods, so, it is impossible to not get some. And, I could eat a whole jar of peanut butter, especially if I have Ritz crackers. LOL0 -

I'm avoiding soy, like Ensure. My onc nurses suggested Carnation Instant Breakfast, whatever it's new name is. Peanut butter? I eat it every morning on my toast because the extra protein is supposed to be good for chemo brain. Has it helped? I don't know but the chemo brain is getting better. Almost back to normal in that department.
Not ready to give it up yet! I enjoy it too much!!0 -

Skipper I also quit drinking Ensure. My oncologist told me I must.I was trying to gain 10 lbs. She said find something else. I drink Fusion but I'm going to try the Carnation Instant Breakfast.I don't drink milk. If I drink the instant breakfast I will get alot of my daily vitamins.

Which I really never got into like tofu...ugh, soy milk and all the stuff they tell you on tv is better than cow milk.
I eat edamame when I can get it in a salad at whole foods. that i like but its like twice a year!! No plant based estrogens for trip neg or her+ positives that what the doc said. I believe her.

I switched to almond butter, I found a crunchy one I love form the Health food store. I have these bars I make from peanut butter, chex, honey and whey protein powder. So I use peanut butter in that.0 -
Peanuts have phytoestrogens
I found out today that peanuts have the plant form of estrogen. It's higher in raw and roasted peanuts, but not so bad in peanut butter. I love peanut butter on apples slices as a snack! After radiation and stress I don't have much of an appetite so peanut butter is my go to source of protein. All things in moderation!
