Dear Kathi
Thank you so very much for sharing the history of St. Nicholas. As a child I had a book about how Christmas was celebrated in different countries and I remember this story.
My mother's family must have a bit of Dutch in their background as we love to make presents for the children special surprises...I even have a few waiting for my grandchildren this year!
Hugs and I hope St. Nicholas finds you in your home here.

It's cool how different cultures have very similar traditions.
Don't forget to put your clogs out
;-)
It's not just Dutch..throughout Europe many other countries have it. Even my home country has it...I used to clean my boots the night before and place it outside to the window pane so that Santa can fill it with orange, banana and peanuts (if you're good), or with a stake (if you're bad). You'd find it filled up by the morning of the 6th....but since I've got moved here to the US I don't have this Santa coming anymore...:( or at least, I found nothing in my shoes this morning...>.< (and I think I was fairy good...) -
