    I'm having it...
I saw my chemo onco, my bloodwork is good and they don't have an HPV result yet but she is banking on it being positive.
Anyway, they can't decide for me because the numbers are good for me to have it, so the decision rests with me.
If my bloodwork changes and is worse next Tues, they will reduce the Cisplatin dose. If still good, I get the same full dose on Thurs.

No regrets, sick, hopefully not too sick that I need to be hospitalized, and I'll get it with 2 days of rads left.
The next day's rad will be fine Fri, then the w/e, then on Monday, if I'm not ill, my last rad, Dec 12, yay!

Wish me luck on Cisplatin #3, I'll need it :-)

    Absolutely
The very best of luck to you. While I still maintain that under no circumstance would I ever do Cisplatin again, I am still thankful that I finished the entire course. From my perspective it all boils down to if or when this cancer does catch up with me again, it will not be because I failed to do everything I possibly could have. I would have always wondered if that third round would have made a difference and that alone would have driven me nuts.

    Good Luck
I had my cisplatin dosage reduced, very little, after the first cisplatin/taxotore/5FU round sent me to the hospital with a low wbc, 1 1/2 days on antibiotics, my levels were up again to the point of not having to delay any further treatments. I also had neulasta injection the following monday after the 5fu pump was disconnected. My chemo onco told me from the get go that this was the mother of all treatments, she also didn't sugar coat the possible side effects, so I was prepared for them, luckily they didn't appear.

Blessings and light ...and congrats on coming to the end of your rads.

    Linda

    Neulasta
And....did it kick you in the pants a few days later....LOL.

My first injection, the week after the first cycle of CTF was on Monday. Wednesday evening I was doing som office work, sitting in the chair.

Man, all of a sudden it felt like my back went out, then all of the major bons started aching...felt like extreme flu.

I had three, one after each three week cycle, but it only hit me hard that first round.

    Best,

    No kicks
Prior to the first injection, the onco nurse told me to take 1 claritan & 1 alleve, the day of and for 2 days after...so no kicking with any injection....but the wed after the injection I did end up in the hopital for 1 1/2 days for low wbc..

    Low WBC...
LOL, that's kinda funny considering that's what the Neulasta is given to help boost...

But as you know, the few days after are when you have the lowest levels...

    neck squamous cell carcinoma
Hi folks I just registered today to talk to others about what we are all going through and for different opinons on treatments and ideas...Here's my story...I had two tumors removed from the left side of my neck back the fnd of Sept...I am 15 radiation tx's in to a total of 30 and 2 out of 3 fog chemo , which really has been kicking my ****...to the extent that I passed out while waiting for a radiation tx and they admitted me to he hosp for 5 days as they found the Cisplatin shut my kidneys down...they cut the dose for the second found by 25%, but are saying they are planning on giving me a full dose on the 30 th day when my radiation is completed...this makes no sense to me as they are to work in conjuntion with one another...the rad will be done and I will have this stuff coursing through my body...not sure I want to do the third one....its my body and I will call the shots, but wanted to know if anyone else has had this same issue come up and how did they rationalize their final decision....Thanks for any feedback...

    Greetings
Sorry to see you here Bubba, but you came to the right place for information. These folks have taught me far more than all the white papers, brochures and medicine labels I could ever read.

You've got quite a follow up regime to your surgery. My tumors were deemed inoperable but I might offer you some insight to the thought behind your treatment. Anytime a malignant turmor is removed there is the chance of leakage in addition to not removing enough of the buffer area surrounding the tumor, so, chemo and radiation are used to clean up any escaping cells and also to kill any cells that may previously traveled to distant sites and are yet undetected.

The term in conjunction is an elusive one as you continue to cook long after your last Radiation treatment so a Chemo treatment a few days later may well be considered in conjunction. You have to keep in mind that for our cancer, chemo itself is virtually useless as a cure, but it does kill cancer cells. It was explain to me as follows. Do you remember how your hair fell out in patches and spots with some areas going completely bald while others hung in there till the end? Chemo kills cancer cells the exact same way it kills fast growing hair follicles. I don't know how accurate that really is, but it gave me a way to visualize the effect of chemo treatments. Chemo cleans up the neighborhood while the Radiation is much more effective in a much smaller area.

I believe they would tell you that their rationalization is to make sure they got every bit of the cancer that they possibly could, thus giving you the best chance to survive without recurrence.

    Best wishes to you,
    Nick

Buzz did not get the third round of Cisplatin because of hospitalizations with each of the first two. The prevaling wisdom seems to say it is ok to omit the third round. Karen

    Weclome Bubba
Actually I had Cisplatin with no radiation.... I had mine with two other chemo meds Taxotere and 5FU.

I had Carboplatin (seven weekly doses) concurrent with the 35 daily rads.

But as mentioned you are still cooking from the rads for at least 3-5 weeks after your last exposure.

    John
