Hi Kim, Rick was having
Hi Kim, Rick was having terrible cramps that started a couple of days after chemo. The pain and cramping would go on for at least a week and completely wore him out. So, after a couple of months of this agony, he asked his gastrointestinal doctor for advice, and he recommended that Rick take a cap full of Miralax every night before bedtime. This routine has been greatly successful for him since he is now cramp free and no longer has a hard time on the loo. I hope this helps you as well. All my best, Cynthia0 -

How long has he been on it? Glad that this has helped him. Some days are good for me but some days very hard to go. When not going during the day I'm having accidents at night (without knowing it) then wake up with a mess. Usually I'll wear a depends at night if my output during the day was not sufficient because this is what happens. Glad he is having a better time on the bathroom issues - it can be so hard on your whole body. Thanks again!

Hi Kim,
I have been taking Miralax every day for 8 months, sometimes 2 x day per gastro's orders. Side effects for me have been bloating and gas but the Miralax is keeping me out of the hospital so what can I say, huh?
My tumor was in the cecum and when my right colon was taken they resected a portion of my small intestine to the transverse colon. Now I have what is called an anastomosis stricture.I had dilation in March but I don't think it was very successful. The opening is so small that the scope couldn't get through.
Good luck with Miralax. Oh yeah, I have found that some of the store brands don't work so well. Walgreen's & CVS brand is good. Good Sense brand doesn't seem to work so well.

Hmmm, let's see, I think he started Folfiri back in June (time flies), so I guess he was cramping for about four months until he couldn't stand it anymore and contacted his GI doctor. I forgot to mention that he's had to balance the Miralax with an occassional Imodium tablet since chemo messes up the body so much that it causes diarrhea on some days and constipation on others. For instance, after some experimentation, he now knows to take an Imodium tab in the morning three days after chemo. Even so, he still takes the Miralax every night since it seems to help overall. I hope that you can find the correct mix of drugs soon that are just right for you. Take care dear, Cynthia0 -

Hey, Kim.
I'm one who has had it prescribed to me by my doctor. I take it twice a day. I fill it up to the first line inside the cap.
*hugs*
Gail
Thought it was you. My cap didn't look like it had lines one it, guess I'll have to look more closely Thanks for responding.

and have for 4 years after anal cancer. There is a scoop in the container so you can measure out the amount you want to take. I use 3/4 of a scoop in the morning. Works great for me. Hope it does the same for you.
Glad that it is working for you, hoping for the same results.

Yeah buying store brands for me doesn't work either. I've tried CVS brand of metamucile and wow what a difference - never worked and got all gummed up. Thanks for your response.

Hi Kim
Hi Kim,
Our 14 year old daughter has been on miralax for the past 2 years. She takes 1/3 a cap in the morning and 1/3 a cap in the evening. She started taking 1 cap twice a day but has weened down to 1/3 cap twice a day. She had been hospitalized for 4 days with an obstruction and they never want that to happen again.
My hope is to get her off it someday and switch to something more natural but we are not there yet.
Best to you.
Aloha,
Kathleen0
