Good news

Went to the Doctor yesterday to hear the ultrasound results. For those of you that haven't read, I had a radical open surgery Oct 29th 2009 to remove the kidney and the 18.5cm tumor. I required no treatment. Recently had an ultrasound that showed a cyst on my remaining kidney.

I'm happy to report it appears to be just a cyst and nothing more!!! I go back in April 2012 for a CT Scan,CXR,labs. I love my Doctor, he put his arm around me when I was walking out and said "Valerie, leave the worrying to me." For those that know me from here, that is a huge task for me! But, I'm really going to try.

On the way home I asked my Husband how I learn to live knowing that I had cancer. He said he can't help with that as he hasn't been there. (but he's always supportive)I'm hoping that
I can learn to live for today, because you just never know what's ahead of you.

    OUTSTANDING!!!
    Great news Val,

I have been following your story, our timelines are similar, its always uplifting when someone here gets good news, but even more so when it is someone that you feel a connection with. I have to say that I think you are much stronger than you give yourself credit for and I also believe that you will overcome the worry and fear that is our constant companion. Would you guess from the picture that you see of me here that I am very afraid of heights? That picture reminds me every day that facing our fears breaks the hold that they have over us, that nothing is as big and bad as our imagination makes it out to be. I'll bet when your Doc put his arm around you and told you to let him do the worrying you felt all warm and good inside. Hold on to that feeling, paint a strong mental picture of it and let it be your shield as you continue this fight. Face the dragon and become a Dragon Slayer.

    God bless you,

    Gary

Wonderful news, Val. Thank you for sharing with us. keep smiling!
I think we all have asked that same question about learning to live knowing we've had cancer. At times, I simply hope I can really live, and not just exist. Other times, I feel like nothing is wrong with my body.
So happy that your news is good!

I am my toughest critic. I have always taken care of everyone else, worried about everyone else. Been the decision maker, the glue so to speak. I would not guess that you are (were) afraid of heights. For many years I've wanted to learn how to swim. I grew up on a farm, and the closest thing to a swimming pool was my Brothers and I cleaning out the cattle water tank and jumping in. (sounds kinda gross....but we didn't mind) I am somewhat afraid of water, so it would be a huge accomplishment. I say somewhat because my Brother (who doesn't swim) and I decided about 5 years ago that it would be okay to climb down the ladder off the pontoon, and go in the water....in the middle of the lake....with life jackets on of course. I was scared to death!!!! I hung onto the side of the boat for the longest time, and then my Brother convinced me let go and take his hand. Wow....it was fun! So....I guess maybe I am stronger than I think. :)

    Take Care

I am soooo happy for you!
What GREAT news. You made my day! We seem so much alike, and our stories are so similar. I hope you continue to do well, and are able to overcome your worry...Easier said than done, I am your emotional twin, and it's so good to have someone to share our thoughts with...I also have a cyst on my right kidney, I worry so much about that one staying healthy, and well, everything else for that matter. I found an article in the recent First Magazine, about the cancer fighting properties of curcumin (CuraMed). I've been doing EXTENSIVE research about curcumin the last few days. You might want to look into this, extremely interesting. So, I ordered a bottle and can't wait to start taking it. Research has been done at Sloan Kettering, and all I've been reading has amazed me. I feel I have nothing to lose in taking it. Darn, this kidney stuff has turned into a part-time job for me ;-). You're doing well, and I'm sitting here typing with a very big smile....Hope we all have MANY more good news stories to share for many more years!

Thanks for putting a smile on my face! I will check into cur cumin . I also worry ( what else is new) about my remaining kidney
staying healthy. I guess I have no reason to believe that it won't be. I have noticed a few things have changed with only having one
kidney. I never have been a huge drinker or a big red meat eater. I'm a light weight and feel sick if I eat red meat two days in a row. Not sure
If this has anything to do with only having one kidney. Maybe just one more thing that stinks about getting older!!!! :)

I think of you often. Take Care.
