Pathology report
He is doing really well as far as feeling good, dealing with his ilieostomy and cathedar. We were jazzed to get rid of the cathedar but it didn't work out, they took it out but he wasn't able to go so they replaced it and referred us to urology. We walked around for an hour or so and he was able to go a little but not a stream or anything. Anyone else have this issue after surgery?
Here's the pathology report...
all margins are clear
took 15 nodes and 1 was positve, he is stage 4 so we knew there was some involvement. I was surprised that only one showed bad, I was kind of excited, what do you think?
So here is where we are in the game plan, I thought the plan was that he would have chemo now but they are doing a scan Nov 15th. If all shows what they think it will show (that RFA worked) they will schedule the blocking off the right side of liver and approx 6 weeks after... the liver resection/ take down of ilieostomy. The reason the liver specialist doesn't want to do more chemo before is to avoid damaging the liver and it not being healthy enough to grow back after resection.
I am bummed for him that he still has the catheder but all in all we are pretty darn good. I am so thankful to my GOD for so much. I also think of you guys and send up prayers regularly, I hope great things for us all.

Hi Brenda, Looks like
Hi Brenda, Looks like things are under control, so glad you are feeling up about it. My hubby always has the catheter after surgery. He has one now, they will try taking it out
next Monday to give his bladder a chance to work. If it doesn't they will put it back.
They want me to learn to do in and outs (??) at home. Not sure I could, but of course I would try. So you and I will both be praying their bladders start working on their own??
Good thoughts, Brenda0 -

I know what you mean about the waiting and growing thing Johnny. I am so glad you are so close to your plan, it does help to have some idea of whats next or when. I don't know how one appt can take as much out of me as the surgery weeks, must be the anticipation of it all. What day is your appt.? I will watch for your post letting us know what your plan will be. God bless you...

Yes, lot's of praying. I don't like the idea of the catheters with the possibilities of infection and all. I found myself in some real trouble once with a catheter and infection, it worries me. I was wondering if they would be willing to teach me how to do the ins and outs so he could try more at home when he is less pressured. I think I would be more comfortable with the out part of it but will learn the in if I need too. I guess we will be seeing a urologist soon. Does your husband usually get back to being able to void? I am wondering if this is what we are left with or if there is the possibility of him getting back to normal bladder function. I hate this for him but he seems to be coping very well. The best of thoughts for you and hubby.

Yes, he has always been able to void each time the catheter came out before. Not sure how it will work this time. It was put in because the bladder had a blockage and was distended, from the rectal tumor. He has had radiation to reduce the tumor so they are hoping the bladder will respond well. You are right about the danger of infection. He did get one and is on penicillen. He uses anticeptic wipes, and gloves when emptying. But he
has a colostomy as well. The colostomy bleeds a lot. So I think the chance of infection is probably greater because of all these things. The home health nurse said she would show me the ins and outs. If you guys get home health, I am sure they would show you. I will be hoping the best for your husband, so many have the catheter and do well when it is removed. Take care, Brenda0
