joliet women's cancer support
hi
my mom has been going to JOHA and Northwestern for the last two years. are there any local support groups for family members of patients? Just got my mom out of hospital last night and moved her in with me again to care for her as she gets ready to start experimental chemo this week. I love her so much and it is heartbreaking to see her in so much pain. It is hard on my kids too, they're little (only 2 and 6) and grandma is their whole world. She was their babysitter until she was diagnosed. It is hard to explain to them what she is going through and why she can't play with them as much as she did before. I'm headed to the bookstore today to pick up some books about positive thinking because I know I have to be positive around my mom and hope for the best. It would help if I could meet with other joliet/will county people who are cancer caregivers. Any suggestions are appreciated.0 -

Dear Marybeth,
To my knowledge there is not a cancer caregiver support group. However, you are more than welcome to join JWCS. You'll be able to share your experiences and ask questions, that perhaps you don't feel able to speak with your mom about.
Also I can give you the contact information for my sister and my partner who were my caregivers through 8 long months of treatment and recovery.
I think cancer is just as hard (maybe even more so) on the loved ones.
Anything I can do to help - just ask!
