In a Funk
I haven't posted in awhile as things have been going really well for me and I was sort of trying to avoid cancer haha! However the past week or so I have really been stuck in a funk that I can't seem to pull myself out of. I'm sure a lot of it can be attributed to the steroids I have to get every other day but it is still extremely frustrating for me as a VERY independent person to not be able to help myself. My moods and emotions and appetite have been so out of wack that I'm driving myself and I'm sure my family and boyfriend nuts. I just don't feel like myself anymore and I absolutely hate it. I miss the old me. Any suggestions for dealing with this?

I don't have cancer, but my dad is going through r chop chemo for NHL stage 4. I am completely depressed and feel overwhelmed. I used to be motivated and the kind of person that never sat down. Lately, I have to pry myself out of bed to do anything. I also hate myself for it. The best solution is to pray and put your worries with Jesus. Keep yourself busy to keep your mind off things. I'll pray for you to get out of your funk.0 -

Hi Anag,
I found myself in a similar state last year. It was so hard to do my job, clean my house, do yard work, etc. etc. I gained 30 pounds - ugh and started to become introverted. I found that writing in a journal or a word doc helped me. It didn't matter what I wrote: angry, sad, blah, bored I just wrote it down and after a while I realized I wasn't as zoned out. I feel the steroids definitely cloud my brain and there is NO concentration or focusing on anything for too long. Have you been getting any exercise? Sometimes a walk can break your mood and clear your mind or at least poop you out for a good sleep. Oh and don't forget drink water, water, water. Hope you feel better!

Cat,
I have picked up writing over the past couple days and that's definitely helped a little. As far as exercise goes it has still been way too hot for me here to get outside much but we did get a cold front today so I will definitely have to get out for a walk or something! Thanks for the advice, hopefully I can get off the damn steroids soon since I haven't been having allergic reactions anymore. I'm just gonna keep bugging the oncologist =]

Hi Anag
Hi Anag,
I was wondering what makes you happy? When your feeling down what is it that you like to do? Do you like to read a good book, or watch a funny movie that might take your mind off of whatever your worrying about. Maybe you need to get out of the house to do anything just to break the routine. Paint if you know how or bake something or take a walk or even better yet if you can go shopping buy something nice for yourself! I sometimes like to watch a funny movie or read a book anything to get my mind off of cancer and the pain. Or sometimes I will plan a special dinner for my family just for the heck of it...well whatever makes you happy do it. I'm here if you need somebody to talk to, take care of yourself.
Sincerely,

A lot of what makes
Hey Liz,
A lot of what makes me happy involves sports and being athletic and unfortunately my body is not up to much of that yet. Going for a walk is about all the energy I can seem to muster up. I was thinking about trying to find classes on maybe baking or crocheting or something new that I can do when I am unable to be as active as I want. Figuring out this new normal has been really hard for me but I am working hard at it! Some days are just much harder than others. Thank you so much for your help!
