Sad day for me.

Hi Ladies,

It's rainy here in SW Florida - a dreary day. I just came back from vet - had to put my 18 year old cat Coco down. She has not been eating, drinking some, but very bloated. Vet pretty sure she had cancer since she could feel a golf-ball sized tumor and that Coco was starving. Vet said she thinks it was adenocarcinoma - that damn monster!!!!

I knew it was time - she was skin and bone. She was a good girl - I got her from a homeless woman who came for shelter to Salvation Army here in '98 when she was 5. She was my first cat and lived the good life here.

It's always hard to let loved ones go. Mary Ann

I am so sorry about your news. It is so hard to deal with a loss, especially with a family member who's been with you for so very long.

    So sorry....
..it's always a hard day when you have to let a pet go, but it sounds like she had a wonderful life so take some comfort in that.

I know how you are feeling, I had to put one of my dogs down two weeks again because she had pyometria (infection of the uterus-how ironic). What's even worse was it was completely unexpected and she wasn't one of my old ones. The shepherd in the pic is 11 and a half and showing every bit of her age these last few weeks. I don't know how I'm going to stand it if she doesn't make it through this winter and we won't even talk about my cat which is pushing twenty. Sigh

    Take care

I am sorry about coco. Our pets love us more than anyone else and we love them. It's so hard to let them go. I may be crazy but I think we will see them again someday.

    I am so sorry
for your loss. It's so difficult. We've lost several beloved pets over the years, dogs and cats...they are real members of our families, little furry beings that love us so much and ask for so little. It sounds like Coco lived a good long life . It was her time and you had the wisdom and strength to do the right thing.
    Big hugs,
    Cindy

    So sorry to hear...
    Mary Ann,

I know must be very hard to end your long and loving relationship with your dear cat. Think of all of the years she had the good life with you...and she loved you for your kindness.

    Big hugs to you!

    Awwwww
Sorry to read this Mary Ann! That's a long time for a cat to live, as I had one that lived to be the same age. Pets are with us thru "thick and thin", knowing you've had a bit of this going on your side. Now she's in kitty heaven --- bouncing the yarn ball and eating up a storm.

I've got a dog who's 15 yrs and just diagnosed with kidney failure so I can relate to getting thinner and older. Happens!!

    The weather is reflecting
The weather is reflecting your loss ... losing our furry companions who love us so unconditionally is very difficult. I too have had to put down dear ones. Ironically, our 12-year-old Malamute who developed breast cancer 2 years before i did, and then my dear 14-year-old cat who came to us shortly after the breast ca diagnosis while I was in chemo, was found to have cancer throughout her abdomen just months before my UPSC diagnosis. It was hard to make the decision but knew that the life they had enjoyed had already ended. But the house seemed so empty without them. Allow yourself to grieve...and heal.

    Thank you all!
    Dear friends,

Crying at keyboard after digging grave. Having a little wake for Coco - am I weird or what!!! Neighbors have offered their condolences. My husband will bury our baby after he says goodbye tonight. She'll lay under our mango tree.

I don't know much about cat behavior but our other cat, Phoebe (who never got along with Coco), has just been hissing at her like she did in life.

I appreciate your caring. Mary Ann

Cats and Dogs go to heaven : Rainbow Bridge Poem
    RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies who has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh Mary Ann! I am so sorry
Oh Mary Ann! I am so sorry to hear that. After 18 years, it is just sooo hard. I just lost my cat, Jerry, two months ago at age 19 so I know how you are feeling He was also a rescue cat. I hope Coco and Jerry meet.

You think he's (she's) just a cat, but someone who was always there when you needed a hug or something.

I am so sorry, Mary Ann. No matter how old our beloved pet is or how many times we have been through it before, it is one of the hardest things we have to do (in my opinion). My two friends who you see on the left have been my greatest comfort during the cancer ordeal--suprisingly even more than family and friends, as wonderful as they have been. And NO, you are not weird at all.
    Hugs

    You are NOT wierd
So sorry about the loss of your cat. I never understood why people grieved the loss of their animals so much - until I had pets. That unconditional love is without a doubt one of the greatest gifts we can have in this life. May Coco rest in peace.

I know how I felt when my pet rabbit died with a bowel obstruction; it still hurts to think of her and the surgery and trauma I put her through trying to save her. You have my deep sympathy for your loss.

Sorry to hear about the loss
Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Coco. I lost my pet Lucky over a year ago in a terrible accident and still don't have the heart to get another pet. I get too attached.

Comfort in knowing Coco had years of love. Thinking of you. Norma

    How appropriate
Like cats Mango trees are sweet and have long lives. What a nice resting place Mary ann. Animals are so tied to the earth . I miss my dog often whenever I run across many of her old napping places as will you.

I'm glad you are doing so well .
