Are we really so special?
Be nice to other people. Live a good life. With cancer or not - does it really matter? Some folks have other diseases that are just as bad. Are we special? No. Every life matters. Please don't make us out to be better than we are. We are only our own own selves. What matters is how we treat others. Life is precious - people are precious - don't let them not know.
Be good.

Yes, I think we are special. Yes, I think that it does matter that we've had cancer. Not in how others view us, but how we view ourselves. Life is more precious. People are more precious.
Be good? Be better!
I do feel special. Special in the sense:
Like a soldier who has come home from war, he has seen and done things others could never imagine. We have been there, we have walked in his shoes, we have faced death and destruction and have come out the other side to walk the streets again. I feel lucky, I feel special, I feel like a winner. And just like any soldier I do not wish to go to war again. But I will if I have to.
You are very special Rose, just as everyone is. Just remember every snowflake is different, no ones DNA is the same(except for twins). I always enjoy your posts. It is good to question ourselves.0 -

We are survivors.
Love to all.

Hi
Thanks Phoebe and Angela - I guess I was in kind of a snit when I first posted. Hope I didn't offend anyone. It's just that I see people like my mom, going through years of pain with rheumatoid arthritis, and I don't feel my situation was any worse than hers. Course there are others here who had lots more issues than I did, and in no way did I mean to belittle anything that anyone's going through, or has been through.
I guess the bottom line, like you said, is that EVERYONE is special in their own unique way.0 -

RoseC ... You're entitled to a snit now and again! No apology necessary.
We are all unique ... our suffering similar, yet unique. We all suffer as that is life. Our story involved cancer, however there are many stories; traumatic brain injury, MS, stroke, sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, etc., etc. Everyone of us is special ... our journey has made us more compassionate and we can now empathize with anyone who struggles with disease/health challanges. We've known cancer and are seeing the other side of it which helps us be so much more compassionate.
Frankly, I didn't want to be "special" in this way ... perhaps you were feeling that way too when you wrote your discussion? Thus your (well deserved) snit? No one would choose this kind of "special".
You've responded to my postings in a way that makes me know you are very "special" and compassionate indeed.
No apology ... big hugs.0 -

Thank you so much. You stated exactly what I meant, and stated it in a much better way than I did. You're right - I don't want to be special this way. But you're right again in that it has made me more compassionate to and understanding of other people's issues.
Thank you - YOU are the special one.0
