Thanks for new thread
Saw your post on the old thread and wanted to make a new one but didn't know if that was my place to do it.
Just wanted you to know that my husband has stage four signet ring cell as well. He is 58 and was just diagnosed in April. All the info I got was from Googling. Will warn you that a lot of it doesn't sound very good. I believe there is an expert on this cancer in Omaha and I can't remember where else.
Since FOLFOX doesn't seem to be working, looking for a clinical trial might be something to look at. I don't know much about that but maybe someone else can chime in with some info.
For my husband, at this point the standard treatments--FOLFOX and FOLFIRI--seem to be working--shrinking the tumors and lowering CEA-- so we are going with those. That won't help in your situation, however.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Oh, another thing. The National Institutes of Health has a lot of info on research that has been done on all kinds of cancer. Wishing you the best for you and your partner.0 -

Re:
"stage 4 signet ring cell"
A link to make it easy: What is a signet cell cancer?
Signet cell cancer is common with colorectal cancer, so you
don't have anything too unusual. It's also said to be worse than
other types... go figger, huh? I've got it; had it since 2006. I'd
love to say I "had it", like it's all gone... but I would never be
so optimistically presumptuous. There may not be any signs of it
right now, but if the immune system didn't kick it out the first
time around, who knows if it'll do it in the future?
Cancer is an insidious disease, but actually nothing more than
a "good cell that's been damaged". Most healthy immune systems
eject the damaged cell right away, so the majority of people never
get cancer, regardless of smoking, drinking, or foolin' around with
lose women. OK, I jest with the "Woman" part... Although,
my friend went out with a woman with an "infectious smile", and
ended up with herpes...fwtw....
Ok back to work here....
There are a lot of ways to fight cancer, and you should take some
time to seriously study up on all the "options". Some are hazardous
to your health and can complicate life even if you manage to totally
get rid of the cancer. Some are easier on your health...
And there are "conventional" cancer treatments, and "alternatives"
to try out.
So take your time, as long as you have time, and try to learn as
much as you can about fighting cancer.... you can do it!
Best wishes,

Thanks for both your messages. I think they are going to put my partner on folfiri as soon as possible. I just keep reading things that it doesn't work that well and it's depressing.
John, I read the anti cancer book by servan shreiber, this has a lot of what you are talking about in it and I thought it was an excellent book that I would recommend to anyone with cancer in their lives. I've looked into alternatives a bit but not really sure where to start.

Stage III Signet Ring Cell,
Stage III Signet Ring Cell, my second round with cancer. I got tested NED in June 2011! The tests and longevity changed dramaticlly in 2007. If one reads an article pre 2007 the outcome is bleak. I did FOLFOX for 7 months and it kicked my hiney! At the same time I am NED. What is worse?
If you have questions or need support, I can be there for you.
Best Always,
mike
PS Fight the good fight! Remain strong it is a new normal for a short period of life.0 -

Thanks Mike, I am not coping too well just now with it all. Like you say most of the stuff you read is bad. The folxox didnt work for my partner though so it's all a nightmare really. He has obstructions too which are causing more issues. it's all catch 22 stuff. He needs his bowels to work before they can put him on folfiri but they aren't working so i dont know whats going to happen. It's a nightmare for me just now.
take care. J0 -

Our thoughts, prayers, and Good Vibes are being sent your way! Cancer is a difficult battle. I felt like I did not have it that bad. My Oncologist told me I had a tougher experience then usual. The alternative to not fighting is not good.
I had two obstructions after my recovery from surgery. The obstructions were exceptionally painful. (8 days each in the hospital for me.) Once he gets his intestinal tract working again, try liquid probiotics immediately. I had, and still have a C.Diff. infection / over population. Goat Milk, Goat Cheese and Probiotics seem to help win the slow battle.
Be strong, and remember the battle is for a short time in life. Walking helped my mind and body get strong. I walk a lot now! Get friends and family involved. A strong friend network helped me a lot! (and still does.)

thanks Mike, getting messages like yours helps. I do hope they can get the blockage sorted but I think they are worried it is the cancer causing it so it will just get worse maybe. I hope it gets better soon.
