CEA

I was just looking over my CT and doctor's reports from my August check up. For the first time in two years they tested my CEA. I know that CEA is no a indicator for Anal Cancer so I found it odd. Probably just pre-cautionary which is fine. It was 2.8. Anyone else have there CEA checked?

    CEA
My med onc has done a CEA on me probably 3 times. I'm not sure why, but I'm sure he is checking for any other cancer cells that may be lurking. Mine have all been within normal range.

    Liz,
    My oncologist has also

    Liz,

My oncologist has also checked my CEA a few times. He told me it doesn't have anything to do with Anal cancer but just did it as precautionary. I was also in normal range too.

Yes ... my CEA was checked when initially diagnosed and was checked on recent 3 month follow-up ... normal on all checks. I think they are just conservative and want to look at cancer markers. Hang in there. xo

Thanks all. I wasn't sure if 2.8 is normal or not. I'm assuming yes because there was no mention of it or concern. I have a thyroid nodule that they recommended I get checked. It's been there on the CT scan since day one and hasn't changed. It's 7mm. My oncologist said she wasn't worried but if I wanted to get it checked then I should see an Endocrinologist, which I did. He doesn't see any reason for concern either. I of course am now an official neurotic person thanks to the cancer experience so I am requesting a ultra sound. He said okay, end of year beginning of next year. I said, no - I want it end of this week or next week. We comprosmised, it's on 10/13. lol.

    Thyroid nodule
Liz, my husband just went through this recently, as one was discovered on an ultrasound, which his doctor ordered because my husband is always extremely fatigued. His was 9mm. and he was referred to an endo, who is having him repeat the ultrasound in 6 months. She thinks it's benign. Sounds like a similar experience to yours. I hope your US will confirm that it's not changing and it will not be something else you have to deal with. Please let us know.

    thyroid
Hello Liz, My Aunt had a thyroid nodule that they watched for 10 years, and it did finally start growing so they removed her thyroid. I know that thyroid cancer is very slow growing. My aunts thyroid was removed 10 years ago and she is absolutely fine. I hope for you its just one of the effects of getting older and a benign nodule. Lori

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling positive it will be fine. In the unlikely event it's not, the nodule is small and as you have said it can be addressed quickly. I just would like to go five years without anything major so that health insurance companies don't slam the door on me. I have wonderful insurance at work but I would really like to get out of corporate life while I am in my 50s. That was always my plan but of course a little wrinkle changed things. I know I am very fortunate to have insurance and a good job and my health. I just want to enjoy life more and the days seem even more precious to me. But like many people in our country I worry about not having insurance or being denied coverage if I try to get it outside of the work place.

One day at a time. In the mean time I count my blessings ever day.
