Post Chemo NUTRITION....
I have one chemo left. I have decided to attack this beast from a nutritional standpoint when that is over. I ordered the Anti-Cancer book that one of you highly recommends and now I am looking for a good book or two regarding nutrition. I have read that eating an anti-inflammatory diet is a good idea. Anyone have suggestions for reading? I figure that it won't hurt to try any and every angle to attain victory. Also, thanks for all of your posts. They often bring me encouragement when I feel alone. P.S. I WANT MY HAIR BACK.

Diet, and other things

So good to hear you are almost done with chemo. Anti-cancer, the book, is a great start. Another couple of books for good anti-cancer recipies are The Cancer Fighting Kitchen Cookbook and One Bite At A Time, both by Rebecca Katz. There are some other really complex books I've seen on cancer and nutrition, but these three, to me, are a really good starting point.
There are other things you can do to help prevent this diseae from coming back, and in my opinion, although nutrition is a good start, it isn't the whole answer. You can search for a post titiled "Boosting Your Immune System" posted on the board back in January of this year. In it I posted a fairly comprehensive plan I got from my naturopath.

I went to my GYN/ONC
I went to my GYN/ONC yesturday and found out I am in remission I have two more treatment of Taxol/Carbo and Advastin then I will be on Advastian as a maintance drup for around two years. The doctor said when I go on the Advastian only that my hair will start to grow back I so can't wait for that I have missed my hair soooooo much. I do have three weeks and that will help but I really do miss my own hair.

I understand about the hair. That continues to be a struggle for me. One day my sister complained about her new haircut. I went off on her and said "just be thankful you have hair!" I think it kinda put things in perspective with her. Good luck! I am on Avastin with carbo/taxol. I have now had 5 treatments. Last one scheduled in three months. Can't wait to finish with this heavy stuff. I shouldn't complain though, I have done really well overall on chemo.

Thanks for posting. I have the Cancer Fighting Kitchen Cookbook. However, I find some of the ingredients for recipes very hard to find in my area. I haven't heard of the One Bite At a Time. I think I may order it as well. I will also check out your post.0 -

I too have just one chemo left. The 6th treatment is October 6th and i will have a scan later in October. I expect to be in remission and although I cant wait to start to feel better......i am a little scared to be out from the CHEMO BLANKET. I just have to trust that my body will fight on it's own. I want my HAIR back also......i love the now having to shave my legs and pits and the free brazillian is interesting!0 -

I know can we pray to God for the hair on our head, our eyebrow and lashes, and the hair up our noses (I say that because for me without the hair there I have runny nose all the time)to grow back but nothing else. I don't have hair on my legs I only have to shave them once every few years but the hair under my arms I had to shave all the time.

Duh, should have double checked myself. I have them every 3 weeks. I had the 5th one today. However, it was scheduled last week but my platelets were too low. Oh well, I can always blame it on chemo brain. LOL!0 -

There's also Foods to Fight Cancer by Professor Richard Beliveau. Some of Servan-Schreibers recommendatins were based on Richard Beliveaus research I think. Another one is The Rainbow Diet, by Chris Woollams. He also has a pretty extensive web site at http://www.canceractive.com/ although theres an awful lot to take in0 -

I have my sixth on October 11th. When were you diagnosed? My cancer was discovered in end May...I was operated on June 7th and began chemo a few weeks later. Love your brazilian comment. haha. :P0 -

for answering. I find your posts very educational and thoughtful. I don't really have the finances to pursue all the things you do...I am a teacher....not the highest paying profession (but an enriching one).....if you had to recommend a few affordable alternative things to do..what would top your list?

Well, I hate to say it, but I really think the vitamin C IVs are near the top of my list. But, they are also the most costly. That being said, however, the diet aspects are affordable, and, I believe critical. Curcumin, I think is very important. I know an ovarian cancer survivor who is in her second remission, and the only modifications she has made are diet and curcumin. Although her CA-125 is now holding just above normal, and she has a couple of small tumors, she still feels great and her numbers aren't changing. The brand I would recommend is Doctor's Best with C3 Bioopreine. Studies have shown that when the curcumin is mixed with black pepper, it is more readily absorbed, and the Bioperine is black pepper. I also think the vitamin D and fish oil are critical. Most of the remainder of the recommendations are related to diet restrictions and stress management, so those should be fairly affordable.
