How soon after you have a port placed can you start using it for chemo? My wife muscled through 18 months of chemo treatments without one but is now tired of getting stuck multiple times.

same day
I went in at 7am had my port put in around 10am and they started chemo that evening at 5:30pm. They were going to put the port in and then the following week but My lungs had filled up and the week before so them moved my chemo up. In doing so it put my port and chemo on the same day. All went well with the port so I guess there is nothing wrong with having it put in on the same day.

My port was installed
My port was installed "early" in order to give me TPN (they fed me thru it) and blood. The put it in that morning and started the blood just a couple of hours later, and the first 12 hour TPN was done that night.
