One of the many wonderful aspects of village life in Scotland is that you can see a doctor almost always on the day you call in. There are 2 GP's in our village of 750, but they cover some of the outlying even more rural areas. Both docs are wonderful. After 5 days of pain, I gave in and called the surgery last Friday. I had an appointment 2 hours later. Because of my cancer treatment my doc took several swabs to check for strep and thrush, just to be thorough. He also took blood (his idea) to make sure my white count is okay. It is. It took a week for the results on thrush, but that's what it is, plus perhaps a viral thing thrown in. I'm taking immune support stuff, so I guess it takes a while to build back up again.0 -

I'm glad to hear that you you were tested and are being treated. I live in a small town in New York State and can get right in to see my GP also. Hope you're feeling better quickly.

Dear Carolyn
Can you get something called Tea Tree oil (melaleuca oil)? It is very anti-fungal and you would use one drop in 30mL of water to brush your teeth with and to gargle with. If you happen to swallow it, it is non-toxic.
I don't know if you are already using probiotics (friendly bacteria) but the bacteria that is normally found in the mouth is called Lactobacillus salivarius (sometimes seen on the lable as "L-salivarisu"). If you can't find that specific friendly bacteria, any other ones will be almost as good.0 -
I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE
I had it too, and it's not fun. Chemo messes with so many of the body's 'natural' processes, especially our intestinal system. Probiotics are essential, and if our body can't or doesn't produce them, we end up with situations such as thrush. Look for yogurt with probiotics included. You can also get natural culture supplements, if you don't like yogurt. Hope this helps, and I hope you get better soon!
