amelanotic spindle cells with large hyperchromatic nuclei and some mitotic figures are present. cells are more pleomorphic than the usual spindle cell melanoma.
malignant spindle cell neoplasm with epithelioid features; large pleomorphic spindle shaped cells with hyperchromatic nuclei atypical mitotic are present on cytology smears; tumor shows staining with antibodies to vimenton and actin
sarcomatous carcinoma is favored on the basis of cytomorphologic features, however, due to the absence of immunoreactivity for epithelial markers, the distinction between sarcomatous carcinoma and sarcoma is not possible as such tumors my show negative staining for epithelial markers.
