mine hurt too
and it felt like I had a really bad sunburn or had been standing in the sun too long or something. But, I didn't have the bumps. I know some have talked about "acne" if they shaved heads but don't know much more than that. Maybe your onc can help or refer you to a demotolgist? Hope you get some answers and some relief. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}0 -

As my hair was falling out my head felt like Skipper said, a server sunburn. I didn't have the bumps though but I am sure that is just because of irritation. For me it would be a traveling soreness. First maybe the back of my head, then the left side, then the right etc..etc.. After it all fell out of course that sensation went away. I hope that is your case dear sweet sister. You are so brave and so strong.. Keep being you.

So sorry you're going
Kari,
So sorry you're going through this. Yes my hair and scalp hurt a lot. I had some little bumps too.
It hurt so bad that I couldn't even stand it when I was laying on a pillow.
You're not alone in this side effect but I hope it goes away soon.
For me, it stopped when I shaved my head. I think it took the pressure off the roots.
Hugs and love,

Kari, first of all, it's
Kari, first of all, it's good to hear from you, I was wondering how you were doing. I'm so sorry about the scalp issue. When my hair fell out in 2009, I was much like you. It started coming out in handfuls and I had it buzzed. Have you had it buzzed/shaved yet? I would call your onc because with all the medications out there, there must be something for your condition. I'm thinking about you and sending you strength to get through this.
P.S. I understand the hair coming out, too. I had my first chemo last Friday and if I follow the same course as last time, I should see handfuls by next weekend. My cancer has also metastasized to the liver, so treatment will be in my future indefinately. We can do it sister!! Sending you love and (((hugs))).0 -

as well. Maybe your doc has something to ease the pain/itching. When I had no hair, I hated the darn wigs--as I've said here many times--felt like a dead animal on my head. So, I really tried to rock the cool scarves that are out there now. I had my best luck with a website called headcovers.com. They were reasonably priced, always had some on sale and I found the pure cotton to be the most comfortable. I did have a few in more of a translucent chiffon type fabric for "dressy" occasions! I also used a little terry cloth skull cap type of thing that I bought on line underneath. That helped the scarves stay on and I didn't look like such a pinhead!
Stay strong, Kari--we're all with you.

Kari... it's so wonderful to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your scalp hurting. Maybe the doc can prescribe an ointment that will help with the pain. I know when I lost my hair, I ordered this beautiful free silk scarf that had a Japanese print on it. I ordered it online and it came in several weeks.
It's called: L. Erickson USA free Good Wishes Scarves.
They have an amazing selection! It was hard to chose a print. Hugs to you dear one.0 -
Hi Kari
Yes, mine hurt too when it came out, and it had bumps. I started using cream rinse in the shower then putting dove moisturizer on it and it helped.
Now on this new chemo, my hair is coming back in. I was told also that I would be on chemo and sporting the bald look all the way through, but I have about a half inch of snow white hair growth now! No eyebrows or lashes, but little curly hairs all over my head!
Always thinking of you and hope you are having an easier time.

Hair hurts
Kari:
My scalp hurt so bad, the only way I could tolerate the shower was to hold the spray nozzle (barely a trickle) close to my scalp. Bought an expensive wig which I couldn't wear, it was too painful. I bought some chic headscarves from topsyturban.com, you can get them prefolded, just put them on, slip the ends through, tie the ends - voila! I liked the ones with the fabric in a little "waterfall" down the back. They have inexpensive sleep caps as well.
All the best to you and many hugs,

Kari, I know!!!! It hurts. Who would figure hair hurts. I'm itchy and bumpy and sore there too. Just finished up treatment #3 - hair still hanging in a little in back - that shows under a hat. I'm trying to wash with super gentle baby shampoo. Good luck to you sister. I'm right with ya!camul said:Hi Kari

My scalp hurt soooo bad, it was extreme! I had no bumps, but like some of the other ladies said, it was more like a bad sunburn...no, not any sunburn - the worst ever! The good news is, once the hair was gone, the relief was immediate. The pain was gone.
I too am a sister who is on chemo "forever", today was week #72. This includes 62 weeks of infusions and 10(and a half) weeks on 13 chemo pills daily.
Best wishes to you Kari. Marsha0 -

I'm going through that now...it feels very tender like i have a ponytail to tight or someone pulling my hair...last night i couldn't sleep because it hurt...this morning i woke up with my head shedding like a cat so i went and got it buzzed...its still tender but it gave me some relieve..hopefully, when it completely falls off the pain will go away.

I'm so sorry that you must go through this again. My scalp didn't hurt as far as I can remember but I do remember reading how nice a satin pillow case feels on the scalp so I bought one. Maybe that is why mine didn't bother me when i lost my hair. My thoughts and prayers are with you Kari.

Its strange we're on the same stuff, but hair is not hurting yet, but it is coming out alot in the brush. I just had my 3rd round chemo last wednesday. I never did have bumps either, just the tight pony tail feeling. But, my wigs are waiting. Maybe another week or two. I wish you the best with your treatment. I'll be on mine for 6 mos to a year.0 -

then come the burn, rash and pimple like cyst. My Oncologist suggested -- Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo .. which helped with rash and pimples.
So awful and painful -- like you and others need another thing to worry about!
Please take care -- and keep hands, fingers away from touching your scalp. I didn't and end up with infected follicles -- yep. Antibiotics then prescribed.

Kari,
Hopefully all the
Kari,
Hopefully all the advice from others will help with the issues now. For the future, not all chemos will make your hair fall out. It may still come back depending on the type of chemo.
For now, you may want to leave your head uncovered at home? It may help.
