I help sponser cycling and work out classes at the gym...Gabe N Abby Mom said:My volunteer time is spent
My volunteer time is spent on education. I'm very active and involved in both my kids schools (even tho my son doesn't like it). As for money donations, my husband and I are both suckers for any kid who says they are raising money for something at school.
Right now, a lot of my time has been devoted to trying to keep the GATE program at my daughters school alive and active. At my son's school I participate in lots of one time events like proctoring tests or registration. I have previously been involved in Odyssey of the Mind and a local mother's group.
Thanks for starting this Traci!
My passion is personal training and instructing at the gyms. On several occassions I've help sponser and instruct cycling and boot camp type classes with the proceeds going to ACS and Susan G Komen for the cure. I'm looking forward to participating and organizing more of these fund raisers, once I get back into the groove...
Traci Thanks for the Positive OT post.

WOW!Lynn Smith said:I am a spay/neuter
I am a Spay/Neuter advocate and also now on the Board of our local Humane Society and was the Board of a neighboring no kill shelter(took minutes for 10 years for them). Started spay/netuer clinics 11 years ago. Over 7,000 dogs, cats and rabbits have been fixed.Soon we will be doing smaller animals like guinea pigs etc.Animals make better pets when fixed and it also helps the overpopulation. No pet owner is turned away.If the family needs just a little money to get it done I help. They pay at 1/2 or more.
Just this past month I also added to my organizng. I am bringing another unit that does cats only.Less than a month we did over 50 cats.As you see I don't have alot of time. This to me is almost full time.It is non stop.Phone Calls, appt, calling to confirm people will be there.I am very up front so I mail everything for them to see what to do before surgery, time to be there and where to go.
Also I trapped 30 wild cats once and tamed them.Husband built a building with a fence and they lived there till their passing. It took a year to catch all but there has never been another cat in that location since.
I trap cats for people who pay to get them fixed.Sometimes they work or are elderly. If the people will feed I will trap and return them back to their location.
Much more that goes along with this. Its in my blood.I can't stand to see a animal starving, females giving birth over and over and see they've been abused or injured.I can't turn my back.My family is the same way. They love animals. My grandkids always help. I feed 4 locations and my grandkids go with me when they visit.Something they love doing.
Also just in the last couple years been doing Relay for Life (walk and donate) and been asked to do a style show.I am kinda bashful.I am sure it will be all women but they have asked me for the second time and I must do it.Knowing me I will fall flat on my face.LOL.
These are my 2 passions now.I won't turn the animals or the cancer organizations away for money or help. I do a couple other things that don't take much time. The Post Office has a food drive once or twice a year that I donate too. Also after cleanng out closets I drop the clothes off at the Salvation Army.

I can't conceive how I could have a life and taken care of 30 cats, even when I was young! I/we do have 'Rescues' - Hubby's "Baby" is a B&T **** Hound that he got from the local Humane Society the day I had my mast., I have a Pembroke corgi he found on the Rez in a snow bank, and 3 of our 4 horses could be called "Rescues". 2 would probably have wound up in the Killer Pen (slaughter) and my other mare - who knows what would have happened to her. She has so many issues from her time as a tripping horse in Mexican Rodeos in the PNW (you can google and find lots of info about what they suffer).0 -

I love reading all the creative, generous ways you've found to share what's meaningful for you.
But I have to say I love the little things the most: Nancy's "boobie pillows" for her cancer center, Sylvia's cookies for Ronald McDonald families, Rague's mowing lawns for single mothers in her neighborhood....these just touch my heart.
(Now Linda...it sounds like you need to find somewhere else to give your time, before you just embarrass your son to death...omiGAWD, my mom's just everywhere, I can't even get away from her at SCHOOL!)

I do a lot at church, and a whole lot with Presbyterian Women, but also choir, mission, etc. I'm also involved in Eastern Star, and Girl Scouts. Then there's our prayer shawl ministry, local breast care alliance, including the support group and the walk/run, and some time in the breast care center library. I've always been a fighter against domestic abuse and help raise money for our local shelter and promote awareness. (Did you know that twice as many women will be abused as get breast cancer?)0 -

I worked for a church for 18 years that had a food bank. I donated every now and then. As a member of a Women's Club, I donated food, clothing and back to school supplies. I had to quit my job 3 years ago because of a permanent disability. I crochet while watching tv at night. I donated many blankets, scarfs and hats to hospitals, homeless shelters, etc. This year everything I've made is going to the church I once worked at to be sold at their holiday fair. I've donated money to many charities including but not limited to Cancer Research, Macular Degeneration, Arthritis Foundation, MS, and Disabled Vets. It's a powerful feeling to be able to give back.

Traci, you know that's exactly what's running through his head! But he's just going to have to deal with it for a few more years.0 -

I am one of the MD Anderson Cancer Care Center weekend volunteers. MD Anderson Cancer Care Center is rated the number one Cancer Care Hospital in the world and it is right in my back yard. I also do grocery shopping every other Saturday for a sweet 91 year old lady.
