Root Planing question

I have to have a root planing today at 1:00. I'm posting this kind of late, but I am a little scared. I know they are going to have to give me a shot, my worries are that I had the left floor of my mouth grafted, and I'm worried about a shot in that area. Also I'm worried about them messing with it then getting an infection. I have always been really good about my dental hygeine and I don't really want to do this and risk getting an infection. He said that my gums were bleeding on that side, but I think it is because of the surgery and radiation. This is a new dentist to me as my last one sucked. Anyone have any experience with this?

Watch the antibiotics
Well by now your procedure is done. I've not had it done but did read up on it and there was a mention of antibiotic strips being inserted while they scrape. I've had some root canals post treatment and the antibiotics have played havoc with my system. I was on antibiotics for tooth related problems for over 6 months. The antibiotics interfere with the natural flora of bacteria within the digestive tract as well as the the genitals, leading to stomach problems and urinary tract infections. Take them only as long as needed.

Hi KingCole, you had your procedure by now, so I hope it went o.k. I had several planings over the years, but not since chemo, and radiation. As you know a root planing is kind of a deeper harder cleaning. They are rougher than regular cleanings, but much easier than flap surgery, which I also had twice. I appreciate your post treatment concerns, and though the cleaning is deeper, mine never caused much bleeding, and didn't create the invasive situation of pulled teeth or flap surgery. It that sense, it's less likely to make extra problems for you. Just rinse and take the antibiotics.

Root Planing - Deep Cleaning
I've never heard of root planing, what's the difference between that and deep cleaning?
