Pain or symptoms with blood clot to lung/Coumadin

From recent discussions, it appears blood clots become somewhat likely as chemo treatments climb into double digits. Did you have pain or distinct symptoms ? My latest CT scan showed I had a blood clot in my lung but it seems to have dissolved on its own. My onc was surprised I did not seem to have symptoms or pain and he is debating whether he needs to put me on Coumadin "for the rest of my life".Since I almost certainly face additional chemo to extend my life and know my tanking blood values the last few chemos created concern, is Coumadin the safe choice even though less than appealing ?

Latest CT scan
Hi, I, too, developed a blood clot after my last surgery and have been on coumadin. Even though my clot has dissolved, doctors don't want to seem to take me off coumadin. But, it's ok, I'd rather be on coumadin then the blood thinner injection of Fragmin. At least I don't get the pain I got with those injections, I just take the pill. It's true you do have to watch what you eat as far as Vit. K and have to get your coumadin level checked, but I like it much better. I got very black and blue with the injections, they hurt and I couldn't take them any more, so opted to go back on coumadin. Doctors have told me that people with cancer are prone to blood clots, so I don't know.
Good luck with your decision.0 -
Blood clots
When I had my ct scan after chemo was done they discovered a blood clot, after having a ct scan of lungs it was discovered my lungs were full of blood clots. My doctor asked if I was having any pain, the answer was no. The only thing I was having problem was catching my breath after going up steps or doing anything that required walking around, I thought it was a side effect from chemo. After going on Lovenox shots 2 times a day for 2 weeks plus taking coumadin, I noticed a big difference on my breathing and doing several things without sitting down to catch my breath. Taking coumadin has had no ill effects on my life (just can't have an occasional drink). I have no idea how long I'll be on coumadin, the thought of blood clots scare me more!!
Wishing you the best,

Blood Clot
I had a blood clot in my lung after surgery last year. I had no symptoms, not even shortness of breath. I did Lovenox shots 2x a day for 2 weeks and then started Coumadin. I was on it from June 2010 until Aug. 2011. I had a second surgery in Jan. and more chemo. My oncologist said after chemo was done and 6 months after surgery, i could go off the Coumadin. Doctors seem to have different opinions about this.0
