EATING
Hello and welcome. The others have summed it up really well. My own story is a Stage 4B diagnosis of SCC of my Right Tonsil with METS to 19 Nodes in my Neck. I had Tonsillectomy and Modified Neck Dissection. The first 3-4 months after surery and during treatment were rough for me as I got a Staph Infection 3 times, Thrush 4 times and also had Blood Clots in both Calves.
Long story short, eating was very hard for me due to all of these setbacks I had encountered, but found that forcing myself to hydrate seemed to solve a few other issues which allowed for me to eat a little more, and then adding some daily excersise weather I felt like it or not also made for some of the other aggrivating side effects to resolve.
Today at a little over 9 months post treatment, I have leveled my weight out where I now want it, (190-196 VS the 240 I was at before Cancer), I go to the gym and lift weights 4-5 days per week, can play a little bit of Lacrosse and also have played in a summer hockey league with my son.
Take baby steps and keep adding to those steps and with consistency and perserverance, he will do just fine.
Stay strong !!

Your frustration as well as joy about the pancake! My husband goes up and down with eating and there is a lot of trial and error. The most consistent things have been cream of wheat, smoothies, creamed soups, and yoghurt. There is a great thread on this site for smoothie recipes. I would be glad to share mine if you want it. Also, i bought a magic bullet at Costco and it has been the best money I have spent since January!
Only other advice...don't take it personally when the food goes in the disposal!0 -

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. I read all of them to Steve and guess what he asked for a pancake, I could of cried. He told me he will try harder on the eating, and I believe him. I can't thank you guys enough, sometimes you just have to hear from someone who has been through this. Thanks again and I will keep everyone posted. Steve has his first pet scan on the 19th pray everything is fine, in my heart I feel it is.
Thanks again
Linda
My Husband Bob is almost 2 years sice he was Dx'ed...he has had several teeth oulled and he eat's or shall I say drinks his meals...everything there is a drink I order from Wallgreens called Carnation VHC it has over 500 Calories and he enjoys them plus it get's alot of Calories in him...he is at 118 Lbs...was at 150-155 to start and he had a feeding Tube but insisted they remove it way before he should have had it taken out..hoping when he get's some bottom teeth he will be able to eat, but am worried it is not his teeeth I am worried he is afraid of choking. He was eating and then suddenly he could no longer eat and started putting even soup in the blender..Dr's say he is doing fine and it's because of his teeth...I wonder though...as he does not let me come to his appointment's...I hiope it is his teeth...but I have Dentures on top and eat fine without them in...maybe it is his teeth and I am just a worrywort...but the VHC is a great supplement someone on here wrote about a long time ago...it is 49.99 a case usually free shipping..something to think about. Best of luck...:=) everyone is different...0 -

Glad you like your magic bullet. I'll tell you, I really think a good blender and a mini chopper makes all the difference in the world for getting in good nutrition when it's a struggle. I know, I know, I probably sound like a broken record, but there are those who don't believe. Lol.0 -
Hello my friend, my husband had the metastatic sqamous cell carcinoma and it was hpv related. It is rough on you to see him go through that an for yr strength know that it's important for you to walk by faith. I have to hope that my guy will endure this too but I'm finding he's changed so much. He's at the 5 month post stage and 2 months ago ear pain set in and we got referred to his very own ENT. OMG we waited 2 months for the guy to tell us he didn't even have scopes in that office and actually didn't have equipment to disinfect them either. I looked at my guy kinda blown away. He just looked down so discouraged but he should not have had to go through that process. He is going into 3rd month of pain but is told you will have to go through the cancer treatment side affects and twice they have taken him off surgery list to remove only glands not even the tonsil where it started from but it getting swollen again
Bless the Road You Travel as God carries you both

I just had this pop up in my email. I have to share that my husband is going on 11 years cancer free. I wish I could say he is doing awesome but he has a lot of medical issues but in his own words “At least I am alive” today we celebrate our 20 year anniversary, God is great!
