sherbert shake recipe
1 c. any flavor sherbert
3/4 c. lowfat milk (I use fat free organic milk)
1/2 t. vanilla extract
Mix in blender.
I am learning that the days following chemo (I just had treatment 3 yesterday) it's okay to eat a little differently. Thankfully, my appetite has been good throughout (some days a little too good) I tried eating some beans and asparagus for lunch. I just couldn't do it. I wanted something cold and sweet. It tasted very good Do any of you have any special recipes to share? Especially those for the days following chemo.
I did walk 3 miles this morning. If I had been smart, I would have stopped after the 2nd one. Oh well, it did feel good though! Thankful I have the strength to walk.

Glycemic index consideration
Carla: I agree that you have to eat what tastes good to you when you are doing chemo. The shake sounds yummy; however, what you have is a recipe for a blood sugar spike and crash.
While you are on chemo, the sugar isn't the problem so much as how fast the sugar enters your blood stream. Sugar without fat is the problem. Fat slows down the assimilation of sugar into your blood. In the absence of fat, a quick surge of sugar provokes a big insulin release which will leave you feeling wiped out later when your blood sugar drops quickly.
I am thinking that whole milk or even half & half (half milk/half cream) would taste just as good and keep you off the blood sugar roller coaster. You can learn more about this by doing a Google search on "glycemic index."

Thanks for that info. There's so much information and misinformation out there that I get SO confused. I am just trying to maintain my current weight. For the first time in my life I am at an ideal weight. It sure feels good. Do you think that using organic 2% milk would be better for you? I'm still learning.....0
