anyone have any suggestions re: how to reverse residual neuropathy?
i have some residual neuropathy on my finger tips, toes and balls of my feet. it's not terrible, but i'd just as soon not have it. tips don't have to be scientific, anecdotal would be great too. i posted this question on the uterine site as well, since i have upsc.
thanx and sisterhood,
maggie

Alpha lipoic acid
Dear Maggie
I used alpha lipoic acid 300 mg 2-3 times/day while I was on chemo and then continuing twice/day at the present time. I had transient neuropathy that never lasted very long and currently don't have any neuropathy at all. I have seen alpha lipoic acid reverse neuropathy in diabetic people so it may be able to help you.
Consider having your B12 level checked directly as you may also be B12 deficient (another reason for peripheral neuropathy).

I took 200 mg gabapentin
I took 200 mg gabapentin daily for a few months and it helped. You can ask your doctor about it. My fingers are now fine, but I still have a slight problem with my feet, probably because I have to wear tight skates for work. From that experience, I would say to wear non-constricting shoes as much as possible. I also had a setback when I drank 3 glasses of wine at Christmas, so now I avoid alcohol.0 -
HI MAGGIE
I used L-Glutamine and B-6. It helped a great deal. One doctor gave me neurontin when it was in full swing during chemo, but I didn't do well on it at all. The supplements worked much better.
I still have a little 'pain' from time to time in my toes and feet. But that's a huge improvement from the excruciating burning and pain I had while on chemo, initially and during my recurrance.
Hope this helps, Maggie! It does get better!

I also had mild neuropathy after treatment 2 years ago - and believe it or not I started an excercise program at the physical therapy practice where I had been treated for a broken arm (i fell during treatment and broke my left arm!!!) and after two months the neuropathy was gone gone gone!!! Not sure if there was a tie in but hey it's a relatively easy fix Best of Luck to you my dear sister!0 -
