Drinking Red Wine

I just finished chemo and I was wondering about how long I should wait to drink some red wine. I forgot to ask my doctor.

I know the liver is overworked during chemo because f the chemicals, so I am concerned about my liver still being pushed by alcohol.

Any thoughts?

    Good question!
I waited until 3 weeks clear of my last chemo before taking any alcohol, supplements etc. I did the "standard" 6 cycles of carbo/taxol, every 21 days, so I reckoned that if my body would have been strong enough to endure another cycle of chemo, then a glass of Merlot wouldn't do tooo much harm! And, of course, a glass of red wine a day with food is recommended on some anti-cancer diets (they're the diets I love)!
    Kindest wishes

    3 weeks
I asked my Dr when I could have my lovely glass of red wine and he also said 3 weeks from the last chemo.

    Even during chemo
My oncologist said that an occasional glass of red wine was fine even during chemo. I can't remember if I ever did have one while I was in treatment. Now, though, when I drink, it's exclusively red wine. I'm not a glass-a-day person since I drink only socially--and as a writer I often spend a week holed up with work--but I probably have several glasses a month.

    Wine
I use to love a glass of wine. But I take Lyrica and it is contradicted. Remember if you'e taking meds for neuropathy to check if you can drink wine. I have adapted to no wine. It's better than pain in my feet.

Wine OK unless platelets are low!

During five rounds of chemo I never had a glass of wine--although the chemo nurse at my large urban treatment center said "it won't hurt you."

Then I found on Mayo Clinic and other reputable websites that alcohol is a decided "NO NO" when platelets are low--which mine WERE when she told me that a glass "or even two" of wine during chemo wouldn't hurt me.

So I am playing if safe and abstaining from even one social glass of wine until chemo is long over.

But there HAVE been studies from Italy recently claiming that a single glass of RED wine is good for us during radiation therapy; the reservratrol apparently minimizes radiation burn. (Just Google "radiation therapy and red wine.")

I agree with most of you that chemo taxes our liver enough as it is; we can forgo the wine until treatment is over!

    Wine with treatment
I did have a glass of wine during my treatment. My nurse indicated it would help with my blood levels and maybe it was mental but I never had a problem with my levels. I am talking small glass with dinner or one to relax me.
