Mammogram with contrast?

in Thyroid Cancer #1
Is this a really bad idea? My TT is scheduled for Dec. 14. I have a nodule that has started to affect my voice (but interesting, I didn't get my synthroid refilled on Friday, and my voice is almost back to normal on Cytomel only).

I have some spots on my breasts that are extremely tender, thus the order for the mamm with contrast. My thought is that now is better than later--but I'm still a little confused on the whole iodine thing.

    check with your endocrinologist
    Scans with iodine contrast can be definitely pose a serous problem in terms of timing for RAI. HOWEVER, if you are not scheduled for the thyroidectomy until December 14 I believe you should be ok. You should check with your docs though. The time you have to wait between receiving contrast and having RAI will depend upon the amount of iodine in the contrast used for your scan.

    As an example, I had a CT with contrast right before my surgery, ordered by and ENT to determine what was going on - my initial complaint was hoarseness and the CT showed the nodule. My endocrinologist consulted a nuclear med specialist and/or a radiologist and determined that the amount administered to me meant that I had to wait three months between my TT date and the RAI because that was how long it would take for my system to get rid of that large dose. I also did the LID diet for longer just to help it along. In the interim I was put on Synthroid for the first part of the three months, then allowed to go hypothyroid.

    Thank you Eileen. I have a call in to the endo's P.A. I agree, I don't see how it's a problem. Honestly, the pain in my breast is more troublesome than my thyroid at this point...
