Possible help for PTSD

My therapist used a technique on my granddaughter when she was younger to overcome the PTSD related to abuse she'd been subjected to.

The treatment is EMDR (can't remember what the initials stand for) but you can google it and many therapists have had alot of success treating PTSD with this method.

Hope this helps someone.

I don't know what EMDR is
I don't know what EMDR is (or at least I don't remember those initials).

What I want to say is that there are so many misconceptions about PTSD. It is very real! It is not limited to combat issues - as you know. There is probably no one who has not been effected by it at some time/to some level in their life - most are able to 'move on' but not all can without help - even with help some never do.

Now I'm going to 'get on my soapbox' in relationship to a fantastic program related to PTSD and Vets and their family! Since in the early mid 1990's, there have been semi annual Retreats at Ft. Meade (SD) VA for women (Vets or spouses/SO/family/etc) that is based largely on PTSD (I've been to at least 12). These Retreats are privately funded - DAV is the primary funder - at no cost to participants. I emailed the other day to get my name on the list for the Oct one and to find out the dates - well there may not be another one. I don't know why - doesn't make sense to me. While the Retreat is for women only, it is also a time for the guys to be together (Hubby even wants to go and cook this year IF we have it)- they feed us. If anyone would like to see about this Retreat there is info at www.blackhills.va.gov/Womens_Retreat.asp. I'm not in any of the picture but my fantastic PA is the bottom center of the second picture. (Pictures are from Oct '10)

Sorry for going so faar off your OP but - this is something that is important to me and it does deal with PTSD.
