Shout out to Mruczko or anyone else that can shed light on my problem
I saw your post the other day regarding your terrible bout with diarrahea due to 400mg of magnesium. I have been suffering with this diarrhea and had cramping since wed. night after I took magnesium before going to bed. I Had just read that it is a good sleep inducer...well within 15 minutes I was in the bathroom with loose stools and cramping and many times after that. My husband had to go to a 24 hr. walgeens to get me pepto bismol. It has decreased somewhat but I am still going just ALITTLE BIT each time 4x's a day at least. NO tempature at all. Temp. has been normal. I ate what everyone else ate...I just took that magnesium and Wham it came...tomorrow will be 5 days. I can't remember the last time I ever Had diarrhea.
M...did youR bout with diarrhea last this long?? I don't want the onc. to make a big deal of this if it's nothing. Like I said It has decreased but still going just alittle bit. Besides that my hemmriods flared up! Did you take anything for it? Please help if anyone has any imput as to what I should take or they say not to take anything but it's not easy to ride it out. Thank you...I wouldn't bother everyone with something this minor but I'm uncomfortable and don't really know what to take.
Hugs and thanks.
Annette

If...
You are taking chemo you need to REPORT this to your oncologist....diarrhea while on chemo can produce severe dehydration....and while on chemo you should't take ANYTHING without the okay of your onc....is he aware of your taking the magnesium? There's many sleep aids available from your onc....
Hoping you feel better soon!0 -
Call a DR.
If you're on Chemo call your Chemo Dr, if not call your PCP. For it to be going on this long there can be many reasons for it. Especially if you are still doing Chemo do not take anything without clearing it with your DR.
Just dug out the printed info in the notebook I was given at the CCI. It sayto use Loperamide (Imodium AD) for diarrhea taking no more than 8 pills per day and if the problem persists for more than 2 days to contact Dr. - so it definately sounds like it's time to call the DR.
Why are you taking magnesium?
Hope you're feeling better by the time you rad this but even if you are a call to Dr would crobably be in order anyway.

I have been done with chemo for 8 months now. I am going to call doc. today. I never took magnisum before for sleeping. My friend told me she had diarrhea for a couple of weeks. She switched to white bread and white rice, not a very good diet but I better buy that today. I have been eating whole wh. bread and brown rice. She said she took Immodium. I'll check with doc today. Any input is still appreciated. I hope I get rid of this soon, I probably lost weight and I can't afford to loose.
Thanks,

I usually don't take magnisum but once in awhile for charlie horse in the calf while sleeping. Not that often though. I hadnot taken for quit awhile. I am not happy about switching to white bread and white rice. All those white bad carb turn to sugar. I usually eat whole grain carbs. You know having cancer makes us worry about everything. I hate cancer.0 -

Every time someone in my
Every time someone in my family has had diarrhea, the doc has recommended the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast...the docs have never said anything about brown vs white. But nothing greasy/oily or spicy. As your stomach gets better you can slowly add in other bland/plain foods until you are back to your normal diet. And of course with the big D you need to increase your fluid intake.
As others have said, be sure to talk with your Doc. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Problem
Annette:
After 8 rounds of Taxotere chemo I developed neuropathy. My oncologist recommended I take B-Complex vitamins, 1000 mg of B-1, this strength is only available on prescription, and 400 mg of Magnesium. I took them in the morming. Severe diarrhoe started almost immediately after, what a mess? Started to wear depends. I called the oncologist's office and was told to start on Immodium. The diarrhoe decreased by late afternoon, guess there was nothing left. Next day the whole thing started all over again. I saw my oncologist every week during chemo and this was the first thing I mentioned. He told me to immediately stop magnesium and within a couple of days everything was back to normal, as normal as it can get while on chemo. One does not need to be on chemo, though, to get diarrhoe from this stuff, it has this effect even on "regular folks". While on chemo my oncologist recommended I don't consume any milk, only yoghurt. When I lived in the Middle East I had numerous bouts of diarrhoe and their diet for this common occurrence was white rice, broth, yoghurt. But I agree with the ladies on this post if it hasn't cleared up you need to check with your doctor.
Keep us posted, please

Appreciate you coming back on my post. I started taking Immodiom and it has subsided today. At the beginning (last wed.) I called nurse line on friday she had said not to take any med's at all...so all the cr+p comes out. So I thought I had to let it ride. I know what you mean...Mess! Anyway I talked to onc. Monday, he said take Immodium! Tonight I ate a healthy dinner, also veggies and no problem yet. So hopefully I've seen the last of this.
