Hello , my mother was diagnosed with ec.....These are the events that took place so far. Mother had a knot on above her collarbone on her rightside , about a month ago. She made her yearly appointment with her Dermatologist early with this new symptom. Also need to know that she has had melanomia in the past and has donated me a kidney in 07 !! Everything on there is o.k. The place on her shoulder came back positive along with the esphogus with the pet scan. She is scheduled endoscopy this fri. She has said nothing about the ultrasound also? I'll will remind her to tell the doc tommorrow. Right now i need some support bigtime. Im sure she will need help , my stepdad works. However my fiance a cancer surviver and myself have nothing pending , and could help. We have 2 great hospitals in Atlanta. I love Piedmont , they are remarkable in many feilds. Emory has also top of the line dr.s that talk back and fourth with dr.s around the world. I have got the green light from her to find as much as i can. She's not the one for computers. God bless this web sight , and all of you !!

Hi, I am from your area. My surgeon was chief of thoracic at Emory 35 yrs. I finished treatment and had surgery in may 2008 at Emory Midtown. I was diagnosed with stag three EC. I had the Ivor Lewis surgery, and did very well, even though I have learned the recovery is shorter with the MIE. I don't know if my dr. does the MIE. My doctor is now chief of thoracic at Piedmont Hospital. You're right, they are both excellent hospitals, and in my opinion my doctor was also. My oncocologist is in Fayetteville. I put him up there with the best. My scans still show I am NED.

I feel fortunate to have had a doctor with the experience he has in thoracic surgery. I have read a lot of positive things about the doctors at Emory now. Some are doing the mie.

This is a good suppotive site, and there are a lot of suvivors and caregivers With answers to most things that come up.

Feel free to talk to any of us and keep us posted on your mom.

    Prayers, Sandra
