Hi, I am from your area. My surgeon was chief of thoracic at Emory 35 yrs. I finished treatment and had surgery in may 2008 at Emory Midtown. I was diagnosed with stag three EC. I had the Ivor Lewis surgery, and did very well, even though I have learned the recovery is shorter with the MIE. I don't know if my dr. does the MIE. My doctor is now chief of thoracic at Piedmont Hospital. You're right, they are both excellent hospitals, and in my opinion my doctor was also. My oncocologist is in Fayetteville. I put him up there with the best. My scans still show I am NED.
I feel fortunate to have had a doctor with the experience he has in thoracic surgery. I have read a lot of positive things about the doctors at Emory now. Some are doing the mie.
This is a good suppotive site, and there are a lot of suvivors and caregivers With answers to most things that come up.
Feel free to talk to any of us and keep us posted on your mom.
