Am I in menopause? 29 years old on Cytoxan.

Hi everyone,

I just realized that my, primarily nightly, sweating might be hot flashes. I am on cytoxan/taxotere and have been told there is a 20% risk this will put me in permanent menopause. Do you think this is what is happening to me? I have a vague memory of reading about "temporary menopause" caused by chemotherapy. Can I be going into this temporary menopause? If there is such a thing.

I do want children and the prospect of having gone into menopause scares me. However, we have 13 frozen embryos that could help us should this have happened.

I am grateful for any thoughts you could share.

The hot flashes probably are from chemo induced menopause symptoms. My sister was 30 when she had chemo and her periods went back to her normal but weird cycle after chemo. Since you froze embryo's, you are covered either way.
The odds though are in your favor to get back to what ever is normal after BC.

Temporary Menopause

I started chemo when I was 40 and went into temporary menopause. I didn't know until the other day that it was going to be temporary for me, however. I was told by my oncologist that I am now pre-menopausal again. So it took nine months for me to emerge from "chemopause". I read an article about this and it basically says that the younger you are the more likely it is for your menopause to be temporary. I think it varies as to how quickly it comes back as well - for some it can return immediately following the end of chemo. I know other women on this board that have said that their cycle came back just as regular as ever. I would talk to your oncologist and ask what s/he thinks.

How do you know if it's temp. or perm.?
