how many doxil infusions have you had???

After visiting the consultant today , he has said they only give 6 doxil treatments in the UK as there is no evidence that anymore is beneficial.
I seem to recall someone posting on here that they had had about 18 doxil treatments? maybe I am wrong , but after he said it , I thought I don't care if it is just holding it at bay , that's fine by me and mum,I need to know because if that is the case I am going to confont him about it.
I understand in the States insurance pays for your healthcare , but if what I remember is right and assuming that Doxil worked for mum for that long long that equals a almost year extra for my mum , and my children's nanny.......priceless.

    Number of Doxil Infusions
    Liz -

I have had 7 Doxil infusions, and my oncologist plans to give me two more. I have not heard anything about research that says six infusions is the maxiumum recommended number. However, my nurse has said they are REALLY happy if they a patient can get six infusions, because a lot of patients cannot tolerate that many.

I have stinging palms (no blisters), mouth sores, and a weird problem with my blood pressure. My blood pressure was super-low last week (79/62), and my onc sent me to the ER for a bunch of tests. They can't figure out what's causing it, but I wonder if it's steroid withdrawal. I'm taking a pretty big dose of steroids for 7 days following each Doxil infusion in order to prevent the hand/foot syndrome.

There is a maximum cumulative Doxil dose: "The use of DOXIL® may lead to cardiac toxicity. Myocardial damage may lead to congestive heart failure and may occur as the total cumulative dose of doxorubicin HCl approaches 550 mg/m²."

    Hope this helps,
    Kathy
